Another 4.57 gear thread
I picked my car up today after the Rick's 4.57R gear package w/yellow box install. It was done by one of the best shops in the immediate area and I feel certain it was done very well, down to the yellow box adjustment short of a GPS - which they didn't have. We just applied the 11.22% difference and let it go at that for now.
I'm through the 3 heat cycles (counting the drive back to work) plus 1 more on the way home; varying speeds and trying to apply/reduce load along the way.
Initial impression:
I'm not so sure that this mod is for everyone - but I love it. That little lag/dead zone at take off is no more. The shift points have changed (relative to mph) as expected.
Question:
After accelerating to about 50 to 55 mph and then cruising for several seconds there is a discernable whine that stops on both acceleration and deceleration and is becoming fainter with each iteration.
I know this may be the nature of the beast but I'm wondering if others have had the same experience early on and if it subsides as the gears are seated.

Some folks on this board who have this gear set stated they get "gear whine". Others have claimed that they don't get any whine at all, even after proper break in. I wouldn't worry about it to much since you claim to have had it installed by a very reputable shop.
We'll let those who have them chime in and give their feedback.

the whine usually tapers off a bit. also, i'd drive the car with some restraint for the first couple hundred miles if you can. just like breaking in the new gearset.

I've got almost 2000miles on my 4.57's - the whine tapers yes - but it's still there ... it's less noticable and I think you really need to tune in to it if you want to hear it... IMHO it is a very small downside price to pay for a fabulous increase in performance
...the thing I love most about this gear set is that consistant feeling of thrust from engagement through into/through VTECand then up to redline... there is no lag down lo any more...that does it for me... the car is brighter & has more pep where I think it needed it....
congrats & enjoy!

what are your rpms at 80mph? how about 65?
Maybe someone else will chime in. I'm sure there is some formula which would calculate the difference but I don't know what it is.
