Am I in trouble?
I bought a new 2003 S2K and it has about 5000 miles on it now. I had the oil changed a few weeks ago and was hearing a ticking noise when warming the car up as though the oil wasn't circulated through the system yet, but a few minutes later when you get going it would be fine. I checked the oil level and it's fine. The car just sounds weird now especially over 4000 rpm. S2000 are loud, but it seems even louder now. Am I screwed?

Yes, you must immediatley upgrade to a MY04'
Seriously, I think it is possible for the valve train to emit more noise when cold even when oil is circulating properly, but there are better opinions than mine, stay tuned.

I don't think you are screwed, I think you are cold. Unless you have a heated garage, isn't this the 1st time you have started your car in cold weather? If so, the ticking is just normal valve noise in my opinion until the parts heat up and reach normal operating tolerances. Unless you see an oil light or experience bad driveability, I would say you are OK. If it is still warranteed, a valve clearance check might give peace of mind, but let's see what other more experienced owners say first.

Experienced Owner here!
I shall dispense my S2000 wisdom on to you, young lad...heed my advice, it will provide you with peace of mind, and possibly a fix.
Take it to your local Honda dealer for a check.
If you have any other technical questions about the engine, please...feel free not to ask me, for I will have no clue what to say.
