I know that AP1 is going to be what I end up getting since all AP2's in my area are all 20k plus so that's out of my ballpark. Because AP1's are the oldest generation (lol cause theres two) i'm worried about choosing the right one. This will be my DD so I want it in a good enough condition so I can generate some income to be able to repair it.

First is the mileage, should I get a high mileage, low mileage? Now this might seem like a dumb question... but with some lurking I read a thread on "high mileage vs low" and it had some good points. A low mileage one probably was abused more because the owned went VTECH on it while maybe the high mileage one was only going to work and back.

Second is year. In my area ( Washington State ) for some odd reason, THERE ARE NO 2003 HONDA s2000's ON THE MARKET! It makes me quiver with fear and anger. Am i screwed? LOL.
Go to your bank or CU. Ask. You may be surprised. Don't like the answer? Go somewhere else. Private party financing is done all the time. I got mine out of state in PHX. Actually got it sight unseen, (dealer had lots of ebay pics) I contacted him directly and made a deal. It was paid for when I could finally get there and drive it home.

You should be able to get a solid AP1 for a lot less than $15k. That's what I paid a *dealer* for mine used with less than 40k miles when it was 6 years old. A GOOD ~80k miles car shouldn't be more than $12k.

Then again, if you have to finance a 10-year old used car, you should ask yourself if you can *really* afford it. How much money do you actually have to spend?

Miata might be a better way to go...

Being from WA state myself, you just have to be patient. Even look in to Oregon for the car. I ended up getting mine from portland.

Have you actually shopped around? Financing is available for private party sales. However, as pointed out above there may be mileage limits on any financing. Rates are sometimes higher for older cars as well.

As always, miles are just miles. You need to the consider the condition, history and maintenance of the specific car -- not just what the odometer reads. Don't select a car relying on generalities. You need to consider the specific vehicle you're looking at.

Again, you can't just assume based on an odometer reading.

If anyone "went VTECH on it" then skip it. VTECH's a cheap brand of electronics. VTEC, on the other hand...

Have any car you're considering buying inspected.

If money's tight are you sure you're considering total cost of ownership? Have you priced insurance? Have you accounted for the added cost of more frequent tire replacements and alignments (depending on roads in your area) as well as other maintenance?

None of this is new info and is covered in every thread on buying an S.

Paid $18,250 for mine at the dealer, '06 Laguna Blue with 42K miles. There are deals out there, just take your time and be willing to drive a few hundred miles .
