So, what say you s2ki? Should I keep my current Berlina and add to it over time or go for a GPW AP1?
You should do what you want based on your needs/wants/budget/situation. Only you can determine whether or not this is worth the hassle to you to get an AP1.

I've decided that I just love the s2000 more than any other car around and want to have one forever.
Do you have a very clear idea of what it will take for the house and ring? There's a tremendously wide range of options for both. The difference in prices that you've stated wouldn't have worked for my situation (especially if I was expecting to have to repair/mod the car that was going to be purchased). Obviously, YMMV.

Clarify why these are cons. The first doesn't seem like it belongs in an argument against the idea. The latter could easily be a con if it constantly puts you in a worse financial situation every time and if, as your posts indicate, you're easily distracted by greener grass on the other side of the fence.

Again, do you know exactly how much you need for the ring and the house? Is the car a higher priority than the ring and the house in case your financial situation suddenly changes? Have you purchased a house before? Are you familiar with all of the associated costs?

When was the last time you actually drove an AP1? Memory isn't as reliable as we think it is and it quite often tends to gloss over negative details that we seem to easily forget about. I'd suggest test driving (as you should always do) one before making any decision. If you can't state your reason for wanting the AP1 better than just "mystical" then you may want to go back and carefully reassess what you specifically prefer about the AP1 and whether it's worth going through this to you. That said, it's entirely possible that "mystical" is enough of a reason for you.

Consider test driving it rather than just spec sheet racing. Spec sheet racers aren't very fond of the S2000 either if you think about it. The experience > specs alone.

No paint job makes an AP2 into an AP1 (or vice versa).
Wow this is a long one! I'll try to respond to it all!

I know I should do what I want, sometimes it helps to get the input of people that can understand my situation more than say my friends that don't care about cars. They just say "it's the same car, why bother?". Ultimately it is up to me but it's nice to get input from other people as they may have ideas/thoughts that hadn't occurred to me.

I know how much I want to spend on a ring and though some rough calculations have an idea of what I can afford in a house. My girlfriend isn't that huge on jewelry and stuff like that and doesn't want a really expensive ring. I'm not going to cheap out or anything but I'm not going by the 3 month salary rule by any means, I think it's a stupid rule that makes people spend more on a ring than they should (IMO).

I've never bought a house before but I've been consulting my parents about it and have a decent idea of the costs associated with it all. Lucky for me I've got a large amount of stock options vesting over the next 3 years that will give me the money I need for a house.

Last I drove an AP1 was last year when I was test driving cars before I bought my 06. Honestly in normal driving they feel really similar, the AP2 has a bit more grunt down low but the AP1 wasn't terrible by any means.

Haha, I don't think I'll be getting another "fat check" like that from work anytime in the near future. I work for what was a startup company and we were purchased by Citrix in October. Since I'd been here for a while I got a pretty sweet bonus and stock option plan when the deal was done. I won't go into specifics but it was enough to pay off my CC debt and my car, which I owed ~16k on, the options will be enough to cover a 20-30% down payment for a house and should pay for most/all of our eventual wedding.

I really do appreciate all the feedback as it's helped me out a lot. After a lot of thought, consideration and looking around I've found an AP1 on sale here on the forums that I want to buy, I've listed my car for sale and if it sells before he sells his car then I'll buy it. If he sells before I do then I'm going to take my listings down and keep the car. Ultimately going through all of the hassle of selling mine, finding another, and building it up again is just not worth the difference. The AP1 I'm looking at is one of a kind and something that I think is worth the trouble: https://www.s2ki.com/...s2000-gtx3076r/ (I'd be buying it partially parted out should I be able to buy it. So I still won't have a car payment).
