Default Almost sold my s2000 again....ahh wtf !?

Well, I got cold feet and flaked out once again on selling my 2000 nfr Ap1 to a local kid...

I myself purchased "Special" back in Nov. 2009 for 12grand cash @ 70k miles (mint condition/ bone stock). I daily'd "Special" for 3 years until I was able to get ahold of a daily driver but dealt with 2 failures that Special had for me within the first 3 years (Special's transmission and differential took a dump on me). I know Special is far from mint as she has a few dings and a smaller dent but after 5 years but I just can't fathom letting her go for 10 grand CASH that was pretty much in my face, I mean it has a handful of rare goodies along with a complete drivetrain overhaul about a year ago. Latly I've been attempting to save up for a 100% body restoration along with a fresh coat of Nfr...KKB still rates a MINT 2000 s2000 with 122,xxx @12grand STOCK! I understand I'd never get all the 18/19grand I've sunk into Special over the years but I can drop another grand or two to achieve top dollar value that Special truely deserves, slowly but surely.

This year hasn't been exactly awesome for me with breaking a 1/4 panel window on my daily (by mistake), my small accident i had with Special (blessed that it wasn't worse then it was/seemed), family issues, girl problems, breaking my arm/surgery 2 months ago requiring a plate and some screws and still having my arm in a cast and most important missing work. Ive spent most of my down time thinking about issues, priorities, and goals that i need to handle once I can to better myself as an individual.

Ive heard people who sell there s2000's always regret it...even if they had no need to sell it, or even go as far as aquiring another s2000 after the fact. I feel people who never owned an s2000 (or until they do) don't realise how perfectly machined this road/track monster (almost killed me atleast 3 times) was bread up to be whither or not your a young, old, slow, fast, good, or bad driver (or maybe im a 26 year old whos obsessed?) idk, I don't like to think that I am obsessed due to me having other hobbies, friends, and interest outside of cars but i do have a great respect for sport cars and motorcycles. I honestly think this is the best "RWD sports car" ever made with its semi affordable and worthy/friendly maintance (unlike overpriced e30/e36/e46 bmw parts that are made out of plastic vs. oem honda parts) but I shouldn't say that becuase I've never personally owned an e36 (m3).

The point of me writing all this (ranting) is that "no automobile will ever fulfill the driving experience that an s2000 will provide" especially for the price and friendlier maintenance that can be done by its own owner (unless a lift is required). After all this i just want to maintain my current milage as best as possible and continue on with the attention and work that Special is asking me for...but at my own pace, not hers, or anyone else's.

Dont sell your s2000 if you don't have too. You will regret it.

Whither or not I get flamed or complimented for posting this, it doesnt matter becuase at this point I feel I've gotten rid of some relevant information thats been floating around in my brain recently. Thanks to s2ki and you guys for letting me do so.

if you have anything to add please chime in

yeah man shes a keeper, i cant wait to see what you have in store for this one @ NFR_AP2

I named her "Special" in this thread becuase it's more feminine then Stewie which i always thought sounded a little ghey and thinking back on it maybe i should have picked Savanna, Sexy, or Sindy but hard to pick a sexy female name that starts with the letter S and describes its characteristics. Special does sound a little creepy but i think it fit the post down to a T @ Si isn't Enough

overall if you think about it, a 2grand deprecation hit for having the car for 52K miles (70 you got it at, minus the 122 you quoted) and the fact that you had a buyer willing to spend it cash, most banks wont finance a car that old. I do believe if i was gonna sell my car i wouold have taken that and ran to the bank.

as far as the whole drivetrain overhall, well thats the cost of ownership, sucks to dumpt that kind acash into a car and then turn around and sell, or attempt to.

The only way I would ever sell mine is as a last resort because I got laid off from work and needed money or if someone offered me $80,000 for it
because that is what I would have to spend to get a decent replacement for it.

Other than that, I'll have mine until I can put antique plates on it!

Flaky sellers are very frustrating to car buyers. This is why it's best to be ready to close the deal and take delivery on the same day. There was a 10 day delay from when we signed a purchase agreement and paying / taking delivery of my S2k due to waiting for money from an investment sale to arrive in my account and the PO going on a business trip. I half expected hime to back out of the deal when I contacted him a couple days before the transfer.

A few years ago I was shopping for a used Subaru Outback and one popped up on CL one evening that had evaded my daily searches - even though the ad claimed it had been active for 3 weeks. The price was great, I called right away, and was at the guys house at 8:00 AM the next morning for a test drive. When he went in to copy the deposit check and sales agreement he found a flood of emails about his car. My daughter and I were sure to return a few hours later with the rest of the cash to pick up the car and title. Apparently the evening before, the guy changed his CL ad to lower the price and change his header from Subaru Legacy Wagon to Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon. (Technically for 2007 Outbacks, both were correct.) As we drove away it dawned on him that originally omitting the word "Outback" probably cost him a couple grand.

for me it was about a 4 week out of state purchase process back in 2009, their was a lean on the car and the owner had a kid on the way and was also in the market for a house so in that case he was forced to sell it, i respectfully offered him his asking price....it was meant to be

yeah i hear ya @ragweed316, i still have a window to sell it to the kid but with J's and vertex goodies and a hardtop id be taking a hit...i told the kid 12grand as is including 3 sets of wheels and 2 sets of exhuast and all OEM parts i have laying around and he came out with the 10grand semi stock..regardless my gut just told be to back off becuase id regret it...now if the car was stock then i would have done asap...with my broken arm still healing i just dont have the ability to stock it out in 24 hours type deal...i think at this point im just going to rock it till the wheels fall off unless im forced to sell it

if i did cash out and lets say i picked up a black mk4 golf vr6/20th or something...you may find me at H20internatioanal or on my way to davy jones locker

antique plates sound like a plan!! @NH_s2k_Guy

I sold my S2000 almost 6 years ago. I only had it for a year, and that's all it took for me to realize that I'm too damn tall for this to be a DD. However, I've missed my S pretty much every day since I let it go. I didn't necessarily regret selling it, and I'm sure the day will come when you do. But you'll miss it, and you'll want another one. Trust me. I went with luxury when I sold it, simply cause there's such a lack of it in the S . But I'm still considering buying one all the time.

I get sad just thinking about selling the S. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford a separate daily driver, though.
