Without more details, I can't say for sure, but that sounds a lot like how my tranny "bitchiness" began. Around 50k miles, my 1-->2 shift started to get notchy, and kept getting progressively notchier. Up until that point, it had always shifted smoothly.

It got notchier until I would get the occasional grind when shifting from 1-->2 (primarily an occurence when the car is cold), and that also eventually happened with greater and greater frequency. But before you freak out, keep in mind that this is all speculation based on very limited knowledge of what's happening in your case.

But keep an eye on it... Personally, I think a tranny fluid change would help (it won't hurt), but the question is whether the improvement will last.

You might also want to also check the clutch fluid. If it is low or has air in the system from a leak, it may not be releasing all the way when you think it is. I recently had this problem and fresh fluid eliminated the shifting notchiness I had been feeling in 1-2-3 and difficulty getting into R.

If you do a search on this topic you will get more then wanted information. This is a very common problem with S2000's. Luckily there are two methods that can possibly be used in order to fix your problem. Clutch fluid change and trans fluid change. Recommendations come highly for the GM Syncromesh trans fluid and any DOT 3 brake fluid can be used for the clutch fluid. Also there were TSB's on these trans problems, if your car still falls under warranty you could be a possible candidate for a warranty claim!

I had a similar problem. Went with a tranny fluid change using GMSFM and it smoothed it out for the most part. People are telling me there's no way to completely get rid of it.

.It is a good idea to change your cluch Fluid and bleed the system. what made the biggest difference for me was the trans fluid. If you go with the GM stuff (I did) Just make sure you get the right GM synchromesh it is the FRICTION MODIFIED version. You need just under 2 quarts Hardtopguy has it at a good price..That is where i got it . I changed about a week ago maybe 300 miles and the shift feel has changed pretty dramatically, shifting is so much smoother with the GM synchromesh FRICTION MODIFIED..Here is a link to get the right stuff.
