I got the impression that he was reading the intake temperature from the OBD system rather than a separate thermometer. I think that it would measure the air after heated by the TB and intake manifold, and therefore would show much higher than ambient. But it did show the negative affect of removing the box cover.

Anybody put on one of those RM racing open air intake systems? You know the ones with the open filter and aluminum tube? I bought one 6 months ago but never got around to putting it on. Sounds like a compromise. Better sound, slight impact on performance perhaps. Given that I spend 98.92% driving in city traffic might be worth it. I know I put some beautiful hookers on my Harley with no noticeable improvement in performance but I sure am now more noticeable.

I guess I'm just not a kid anymore. My Idea of modifying the stook is putting the top down and enjoying the wonderful attributes that the Honda engineers incorporated into this automobile. I spend too little time trying to improve upon their design, I guess. In deference to Rick Hesel, I appreciate his efforts with the appearance items; they are definitely an improvement on the original design. So, kill me!

Regarding the R&M intake. I believe it loses HP compared with the same air filter used in the stock Honda airbox. Search the old post because this ground has been covered before. The stock Honda airbox is hard to improve on.

Save your money and just put a K&N filter in the stock box and then leave it alone.

I wouldn't make any permanent cuts or holes to my intake system unless i see some hard data and an actual race that proves the mod helped. But then again that is moi.

i just thought i would pass on a little bit of info i found on the internet. i don't remember where i found it; perhaps this guy is even a member of this message board. but since he put it on his website, i'm going to assume he wants to share with us.

here it is, results of just a k&n swap, with dyno charts and all. (i think it can be done without modifying the airbox)

It appears as though the divider in the air box does not completely separate the two sections. I do not think this divider restricts the air flow. The back part of the divider is lower but the other part still is low enough to allow air to go over it.

If this is a performance mod, it might be allowing the air to keep its momentum as it enters the box and smooth the air flow. That others have found the performance to be less with airbox cover off might mean the air does need this guided path for best performance.
