oh, i would definitely say that this glass window has a smaller viewing area than my previous plastic window. But the difference is only maybe an inch in height (without actually measuring)

Well I would rate robbins top as top notch! While there is a part of their instructions I found to not be as clearly stated as I see necessary I was still able to complete the install. Robbins customer service is top notch, but not available on weekends. Also the speedy rivets provided to attach the rain rail are worthless unless you have the tool. They will tell you they can be hammered, but don't waste your time. Just pick up some 1/4" rivets with washers to put on either side of the rivet for the rain rail.

Be very patient while doing it and be careful not to lose anything, there are some black holes where the top motors are. I lost a couple screws. You will need to remember how everything goes together as you take it apart because there are no directions that tell you how to put it back together. They all say put it back together in reverse order. You will also need some contact cement that is good for high temps to replace your adhesive.

The top is a very tight fit, meaning after it is all done the top latches may not reach easily. I had to press down on my top and reach under to the latches to get them to grab. It should stretch, so I have been told.

any time you install a new top, specially in a cold weather, it should and will be tight, that goes to any top model.
after installation, you should not lower and raise the top, you should keep it latched for 2 weeks, so the material can take it's natural stretch and mold to the top frame.
if your top installs loose out of the box? then you will have a very bulky top after it stretches.

No, it's the same size as the factory one with the glass back only it doesn't have a defrost in it......
Incorrect. It actually IS smaller than the oem glass. I did this conversion about 1.5 years ago. Here is how you can tell......

Look at the lower fabric panel below the window. On an OEM top it is about 5". I just walked outside and measured the Robbins top and it is 7.5". The window is considerably smaller. This comes into play when you are backing up and want to see the top of the trunk for distance perception. I find I have to prop myself up in the seat so I can see over that lower panel and out the window. BTW I am 5'7" for reference.

I have a MY00, so was used to a huge plastic window. In comparison, the OEM window is smaller, and the Robbins is smaller again.

ALSO

I am currently under a warranty replacement with Robbins. They are sending a new top for free because the glass window is seperating from the canvas (yes I upgraded to canvas) at both upper corners. They were very quick to accept the defect and didn't argue one bit. I am still awaiting the arrival of the replacement top.

Ofcourse I posted to a question from a while ago, but the info is still pertinant so I'll leave it.

Yeah, but that's not an acurate way to measure how much visible space you have.

Not arguing that the Robbins top might be slightly smaller, but I don't think it's full 2.5" (approx) smaller. The lower fabric part goes on the outside of the glass on the Robbins top and the OEM canvans goes on the inside of the glass so it appears that the glass is taller.

Again, not saying that the robbins isn't smaller, I just think that there's a very small difference if there is one.

No I meant actually went out and measured the opening. I suppose you could have a window 2 feet tall, but if the window frame covered up half of it ..... it wouldn't matter - right?

The useable opening is nearly 2.5" smaller.
