AEM V2 = No Hydrolock
Have had the V2 for about a year now and have been really paranoid about driving or letting the car sit in the rain due to all of the hydrolock horror stories I have read on this forum. I recently purchased an aluminum heat shield from Ebay and installed it this past weekend. I put the setup to the ultimate test and drove the car about 3 hours away for an overnight, with rain in the forecast. I am here to say that every thing was cool. The car sat in pretty steady rain for about three hours, then it was time to start her up. Ran fine, no sputtering. Time to drive home. Every condition imaginable. Mountain roads, interstate, city driving. Car ran fine. When I got home I jacked up the pass. side and removed the filter to check it. The shield had a spot where it was obvious water had dripped, but the filter was bone dry. I reached into the intake tube and it was dry as well. Now, I didn't drive thru any huge puddles, just constant rain for the 3 hour drive and remember that the car sat in the rain, too. Obviously, this setup wont help in submerging situations. Hope this post helps to put some minds at ease. If you don't have the "umbrella",you may want to get it, it just plain works.

good for you. really.
i have heard MANY people having trouble after going through a puddle. the aem v2 sounds awesome, but the rain thing worries me. plugging the hole and the umbrella thing do help, though.

i just got my v2 and its great i plugged the two holes (the hole further down for the precautionery measure), i plugged it with suoer adhesive weather stripping and some 3m weather adheasive glue that dries solid and no water gets down there, i soaked the car with a hose there were no problems, i will be making an umbrella tomorrow for that extra step

Personally, I've never had problems, nor have talked to anyone who's had issues with hydrolocking without the filter being submerged. I've driven in hard rain, puddles, etc, with the filter dripping with water, and I've had no issues. I'm not claiming anything, but I've only had one person I've known who's hydrolocked. But he also drove through a 1.5' deep puddle.
I guess for peace of mind, this will be a good thing to do, but for me, not worth the time.

I hydrolocked mine 2 years ago.I had the original AEM. Wasn't driving the car it was parked outside in extremely hard rain. Apparently, enough rain ran down the pipe and soaked the filter. I attempted to start it and cracked the #4 cylinder wall. Honda warrantied it, in fact they had a new motor installed in just 4 days over the 4th of July weekend.
