Default AEM intake for $230 or Cheap for $55?

I just saw a cheap intake for the s2k for $55.00 at procarparts.com. The intake was aluminum pipes with chrome coating, bent similar to the AEM. This cheap intake also has all the same hoses and mounting bracket areas as the AEM.

Does the AEM have a coating to reduce heat? If so is the added performance and/or look worth the $175 difference?

Cheapo intake prob uses a cheapo filter. But I can pick up a K&N seperately.

What if a cop pops the hood? Don't name brand intakes come with some sort of certificate that it's legal or something?

If not... then I'm gonna get me a cheapo one too, and then just buy the filter seperately.

Why don't you just send me your $55. You'd be better off.

From what I understand, those cheap ebay-style intakes suffer from heat soak like crazy. I would assume it's the cheap material they are made from. If that's the case, you'd lose power. Not good. Cheap parts are for cheap cars. Go with quality for a quality car like the s 2000 and you will not regret it. What do you expect from a $55 intake anyway? If he sends the cash to me, he won't have to deal with the problems of installing a POS that does not fit well and only remove it anyway in a week after he finds out he lost 8hp on the dyno. Come on y'all, if you want cheap parts you can buy at pep boys, you should've bought a 90 accord.

Also, I just noticed you are in CA. No carb exempt sticker on the crap intake. That'll land you a ticket on the road and you can't get it inspected.

Well, I'd be willing to pay the extra money for the sticker alone.

I just wonder if there are some small time auto enthusiasts out there who might be making quality parts. I had a friend that used to design and make parts for a few cars. They were high quality designs, and most of them ended up being bought by name brand manufacturers. However, for a time he was pondering starting his own small business.
