Default AEM CAI....whats the real scoop

Another topic I hate to bring up but I have spent hours reading through threads on CAI kits and the AEM and others and still not sure..... is it worth it? Some say it adds a few ponies, others say no and everyone says it makes your car sound like a rocket...personally think the car is loud enough.... if it helps the car breath easier, is some small help in hp 5-7 and requires no other tuning or custom mods to the car except bolting it on I think I may buy. Just have a heard a great deal on this subject. My car is stock engine wise and don't plan on any other engine upgrades besides this if I hear from you all its worth the money.... Thanks again really apprecaite the help and value your advice. I just want something trick on the motor so its different.....

I have it and I love it - for the sound AND for the slight boost in power. As CAI's go, this is probably one of the more reasonably priced ones that gives any kind of gain. Besides the Injen, which is similar, the others are more money. The stock setup is well known for being a hot air intake. The AEM (and those like it) are known to be "performance" intakes as well as "cold" ones.
The down side, if you consider it as such, is that with this intake, you will have a huge gaping hole in the engine bay where the stock box used to be. (I was thinking about using that space to put a drive belt hooked up to a hamster inside an excercise wheel and say I have one more HP than any other S2000. )

i just installed mine last night...as for power gains: it feels better around 4k to VTEC...otherwise minimal

as for sound: WOW -> Sounds great, especially in VTEC.

my next move will be a header and then install my VAFC.

I installed mine 2 days ago and absolutely love it, It sounds awesome, few extra horsepower, lightens the weight of the car and most importantly your car wont bog anymore.

hey mickfluff.

if you want to see a few in action come to my wash and wax day next Saturay. a few of us have the aems, g-s2k has the mugen and dd has a compteck (i think)

the biggest issue is that the car does not bog anymore. the sound is great and the transition into vtec seems much smoother..

oh and by the way once intsalled you'll have tons of free room in the engine bay ~ oil changes on take five minutes now

I have AEM cai too. I don't know about the power gains below 6k, but I do think it adds more HP topend (especially in the cold weather)
