AEM CAI got fludded last night....
#1
Last night I parked my car across the street from my house and it really rained hard and my AEM CAI got filled with water. My engine died last night when I tried to take my friend home, so I waited till this morning and ripped the AEM intake out and put the stock box back in. I am ordering the Comptech intake this week. NO MORE AEM for me. Anyway the bypass valve didn't work due to, too much water in the piping. I actually had to take the sparkplugs out and drop some oil down into the combustion chamber to start it up. It started up fine after about 5 secs holding the start button. Anyway AEM owners beware. DON'T PARK outside in the rain especially if your near a curb. I just forgot to move my car because I thought it wasn't raining hard enough. I was wrong. Everything is fine now. A couple of my friends work for Honda (engine techs) and one is the head tech at Mercedes and they all came over and helped me out vs. taking it too the dealer. Kind of like the dealer came to me. LOL
Well sorry it was so long.
Talk to you guys later.

So you are saying that there was 18" of water flowing there? (I don't doubt you at all but) I just can't get a grip on the circumstances of this story. I'm guessing for some reason that the intake didn't drain out after the flooding. Were you parked facing uphill or something? Tell us more...

I expected this to happen - after having seen the design... Oh well, glad nothing worse happened...
I think you just got a dose of high humidity air instead of actual water gushing into the intake manifold.

So how did you suck water into your motor and not bend anything? Water isn't compressible so when it gets into the combustion chambers something has to bend.
I have had my AEM CAI on my GSR for 4 years with no problems. I just recently installed the by-pass valve for some added protection.
