advice needed regarding s2k soft top repair
OK here is the situation
I have a 2000 s2000 with the soft top. The plastic rear window is rubbed on the inside from rubbing on the textured shelf on which it rides when the top is down. (my car has the top down most of the time as it sits in my garage durning the week and is taken out on sunny weekends)... so sufice it to say the window is rubbed from being down all the time. the car only has 18000 miles, so the rest of the top is in great shape. Truly the only thing wrong with the whole car is the rear window. My car is out of warranty but honda has agreed to replace the rear window for 500.00 (cost for parts and labor)
I am told that the part cost for the plastic rear windo is 250 and the rest is labor and that this job should cost 1000, so 500 is a great deal. Does this sound right???
Basically to change the rear window, i'm told the whole top needs to come off the car and this is a big job. So what do you guys thing... do I put a new rear window in now. (theory is now that i know what scratched my window i can put one of those mats on the tray and keep the new one good) and take advantage of the price break to change it, or should i just wait.
What do you guys think?? Should i do this now or wait?? I love the car and plan to hold on to it for awhile.
I appreciate your thoughtful advise.

When I picked up my S, the previous owner had let the plastic window go a little. I had the typical scratching you refer to.
I used some "Blue Magic" acrylic scratch remover/polish, and it came clean and clear.
The stuff works great. Basically like a paste wax you apply and buff off.
After that, get the Muz mat for the roof well, and you should be good.
Try that before dropping that kind of money for the replacement.

I just replaced 2000's rear plastic window. It's the entire rear piece that is replaced. The list price for the part itself should be about $230. I was able to get it for about $180 here in San Diego through a friend at Honda. Most shops will get that "wholesale" price too. Anyway..
I took the top to a local upholstery shop (which almost all specialize in convertible tops) and had it replaced for $100 in labor. So in the end it cost me about 300 bucks.
It would be nice if Honda replaced that thing for free. =/ Don't let the upholstery shops sell you in on sewing in a new plastic window, it works, its cheap, but its sewn in.
hope that helps.
