Advice between two s2000s
Looking at two S2000s local to me. One is a 2000 with40k miles. One accident and some old damage that would need to be fixed. Overall clean car. Its22k. I do work at a body shop, but would need to fix a few panels to be happy with the car. Because of the past accident I'd be less worried about this one.
Second car is a 2004. Clean car fax and maybe the cleanest S2000 if ever seen. 19k miles. Its 33k. I would love to have a near perfect example, but may feel bad modifing it. Probably still will and keep any stock parts. Might not want to use this one as often.

Always an option. But sold a project car and looking for a new ish lol fun car. Most of the S2000s I’ve seen were beat up pretty bad. The 04 is expensive but extremely clean. Thinking it may be worth it at this point.

If you're wanting to modify a car, I'd suggest a higher mileage (70-90k) AP2 to start. You should be able to get a very clean one for 20-24k unless you're in SoCal or something. Then you don't have to *feel bad* and you'll have a nice, presentable, reliable car.

choose the lowest mileage, NON salvage title car...all day long. I won't choose 2000-mid 2002 based solely on the way I drive. early AP1's while excellent cars, don't take advantage of the AP1v2 improvements, most specifically the oil banjo bolts.
In addition, AP1's need the front upper A arm mounts seam welded.
All s2000's benefit from a spec valve adjustment, rear axle nut retorque, Cat O2 sensor defouler extension, spec alignment, 200 UTQG tires, Clutch interlock bypass, Engine torque damper, zero all fluids.
Remember, the oldest s2000's are now 25 years old.
