Adding oil during break-in? Just use 10w-30?

Does Honda use break-in oil?

The owner's manual specifically states not to change the factory fill prior to the recommended change at 3750 miles. I know it is hard to resist, but there is probably very little benefit to a sub-1000 mile oil change.

Do what you want, but I'm going by what I was told by the folks who know better."

According to RR, there is plenty of benefit to warrent changing the oil at sub 1k miles. Just as RR says, use the Max Life Engine Protector and you have break in protection.

I have heard that you can mix a tablespoon of engine assembly lube to a quart of oil and mix thoroughly and add with the rest of oil at oil change.

I changed my oil before RR did. At 5,300 miles and 5 oil changes later, my car runs like a thoroughbred race horse. It is perfectly fine. I just might Add some of the MaxLife Engine Protector.

The oil can degrade after 6 months regardless of milage.

I have seen a VOA of the factory fill, and based on that, I decided to do and recommend what I did. And any factory engineers that did not also mention the time interval (as opposed to the mileage) are suspect. Can you also indicate what year those conversations occurred?

BTW, what are you using in your diff?

Thx.

The engineers are assuming that the average owner is not going to be even semi aggressive during the break in period. I was aggressive during the break in period but I used common sense. When my car had 4,000 miles on it, I had the engine maxed out full tilt boogie at 9,000 rpm in 5th gear for about 5-6 seconds.
