? about torching Ti shift knob.
Hello people. I have a Voodoo Ti knob and tried torching it to give it that nice burnt look.
The thing is, I took it to work, fired up the oxy-acetylene torch and went at it. Well, all it did was turn the whole knob black with a crusty soot. It wiped right off, but no purty colors at all.
Should I just use a propane torch? I'm wondering if the oxy-acetylene is too hot.
Thanks for any input.

go to home depot and get propane torch in yellow bottle. put knob on tap and clamp in vice. hit knob from top with circular motion . need to get red hot . this is an art. take your time and wear protection. i would be scared of possible explosion (face shield heavy apron and gloves).
this is a one shot process, if it looks like crap polish and start over.

There was a post here about 6 months ago about successfully doing this. I believe the guy used a "MAP" torch to do it. Not sure if that's right because google doesn't seem to be returning anything promising.
