I'm driving cars since 89 and in the beginning (up to a few years ago) getting a speeding ticket was not very likely.
A few years ago police started doing more checks on speeding, but if you got cought it was still affordable (financially).
Now politicians want to drastically reduce the amount of people killed in traffic accidents each year and since nothing seems to help they are increasing the price of a speeding ticket, at the same time they are reffering to the US and how responsable people are driving over there (seems nobody exceeds speed limits )
This year the fee you have to pay increased allready, a few examples:
exceeding speed < 6 Mph between 55 and 1375 dollars .
6-12 Mph too fast costs between 275 and 1375 dollars and maybee loss of driving license(also not wearing seatbelt, ignoring right of way, using cellular phone while drivinfg,...)
>12 Mph fast, 275 to 2750 dollars and loss of license possible.
exceeding speed by 50 % or > 100 Mph on the highway, or dangerous overtaking costs between 550 and 2750 dollars and bye bye driving license for a few weeks/months.
And even now they are talking about still increasing this (double or more)
I was wondering, is that thesame in other countries , or maybee even crazier.

Aah yes before I forget, when cought using a radar detector, minimum 1000 dollars and ticket to jail (only a few weeks, but still sucks) so that is not really an option over here

That sucks! I think the US (or Texas at least) has gotten really lax about speeding. I have been driving faster than ever (usually 35+ MPH over limit) for the last 13K miles, and I haven't had a ticket yet. It's been over 7 years since I've had a ticket, so I don't really know what they cost. I feel like a "neighborhood terrorist" the way people yell at me at stop lights.

North Carolina at least Charlotte has gotten fairly intense about ticketing speeders. It not only costs for the ticket, but it also can have a major impact on your car insurance.

That's a load of hooey.... Driving the speed limit in the south (especially on the interstates) can get you killed. Been a long time since I got a ticket so I don't know how much the fines have increased (now that I've said that I'll probably get one tomorrow). 15 to 20 mph over the limit is the norm where I live. The police usually focus on the insane morons who think they are in some kind of race. There's plenty of those to keep them busy.

I have heard that in some european countries, fine for speeding offense is determined by what you can afford and how much dough you have!!! May be somebody from europe can confirm this.....
