I followed the owner's manual recommendations for this. It tells you all you need to know. It's a good read. Give it a try.

I'm at 6500 and will be doing my first change at about 7000. I'm going to be switching to Mobil 1. Ran it in my 2000 model and everything was fine.

We can give you suggestions on brands of oil to use but only you can decide which "schedule" (normal or severe) you should follow.
As for:

Who holds your warranty? Honda or those people? I certainly don't, so what I say won't matter if I steer you wrong and you take that advice. Neither does anyone else here. Your owner's manual will tell you what grade (SAE) of oil to use, what type of filter to use and when to change those. It will even give you an indication of when and when not to go synthetic. Once you're safely on your way to breaking in the car as best you can, then consider going with different options and suggestions. This is when and where the Oil Journals will be of much value. For now, it'll make for interesting reading.
