9:55am S2K Pulled over by State Trooper...Story within.

Hey everyone
on my way to work this morning i was on the NJ turnpike and caught in some light traffic. as some slow asshole was doing 50 in the left lane and another guy doing 50 in the middle lane i drop a gear and move over to the right lane and gun it. just then i saw a state trooper hiding in a ditch and attempted to slow down to normal driving speed when i checked my rear view i saw him coming out of his little hidden area. i knew i was caught i was at about 85-90 when i tried to slow down and was at least at 75 when i went passed him. well i don't see him in my rear view behind me for a while but sure enough he was there little down the road and his lights came on. i knew i was caught so i pull over quick turn off the engine pull out all my paperwork and have it ready for him when he came to the car.
since i knew i was caught i figured i wouldn't try to weasel out with a story so i'm just going to tell the truth.
Him "How are you doing today?"
Me "Fine thank you officer and yourself?"
Him "Good, do you know why i pulled you over just now?"
Me "Yes sir, i'm assuming cause i was speeding."
Him "Let me see your license, registration, insurance please."
Me (already have everything handy) "Here you go sir"
Him "How's your license, i mean do you have any point etc.?"
Me "Clean license sir, no points at all."
Him "I'll be right back."
takes him about 5mins to write out the tickets and then he came back to the car.
Him "Tell you what i'm going to do...i'm not going to give you a speeding ticket because it carries 4 points on it. what i am going to do is give you a ticket for obstructed view. in the state of NJ it's illegal to have anything hanging in your rear view mirror (i have a tree air freshener). You can contest it if you like by going to the assigned court date or you can mail in your payment. I'm also giving you a warning for speeding. try not to go so fast next time. have a good day"
- Can i begin to tell you how relieved i felt. talk about honesty is the best policy, holy shit! the cop was totally nice and respectful and didn't try to use his almighty power over me. definately a cool guy. this goes to strengthen my feelings towards hating cops but respecting state troopers. Any asshole can become a cop straight out of high school and from the cops in my town it seems they are all the worst trouble makers and assholes from when i was younger. State troopers on the other hand are totally respectful of people and don't try to pull a superiority act on anyone. they have to be college educated and they undergo a more rigorous training. i have the utmost respect for state troopers cause every time i've been pulled over by them i'm treated much better than by a cop. well that's my story. lucky me...ticket should only end up costing me around 40bux...not too shabby considering i could have paid 200+ and have 4 points on my license.

I tend to agree with your assessment (cops versus troopers). However, given all of the "profiling" incidents in south Jersey (on the Turnpike/Parkway) by State Troopers, I not sure if you're right or just lucky. . .
Either way, glad it worked out for you & keep the speed down. . . There are a number of hiding spots that Troopers use on the NJ Turnpike (between the GWB & Exit 9/New Brunswick) that aren't all that obvious. . .

u are one lucky son of a beach man. eek! that is amazing, cause i never get a warning in california. if u get pulled over in cali, no matter who u know, what excuse u got, or how much u cry for forgiveness, u'll get that ticket. it really sucks.

Profiling may occur based on many other factors than the color of the driver's skin. For example, I feel that it is much more likely for a trooper to pull over a red S2000 going 80 mph on the Turnpike, then to pull over a non-descript mini-van going at the same speed.

i tend to like the tree...strawberry scented...it's smells like you're chewing bubbalicious 24/7 lol. everyone who gets in my car is like damn man now i want some gum. go figure. i have to get the valentine 1 but i've been in a tight jam with money right now so i'm trying to curb expenses for awhile...hopefully i'll get in a month or two.
as for the ICEMAN666 i don't doubt the troopers profile which is a horrible thing to do but i'm white so i get off easy on that one. what i have going against me is i look young and i drive a sports car...i'm an easy target. although i'm 24 i look 17 which is crazy but hey what can i do. lucky i have a sister who is a partner in here law firm for all the tickets i can't weasel out of but i try to play it cool when i do get pulled over and it tends to work. i have to say i've gotten about at least 15 tickets in my driving life. 10 i've gotten off on my own by talking with the cop and the other 5 my sister went to court with me and either dismissed the ticket or got reduced fine and no points. not too shabby iwould have to say.

p.s.
i'm now in the process of making periodic but consistant donations to the state troopers for those lovely get out of jail free cards they tend to give out and those lovely stickers. there are a million and one ways to get out of a ticket in NJ. but sometimes you get a mean s.o.b. who just doesn't care.

Haha, luckily I've had similar experiences.
One week after I bought my red/black back in October, I was out in town and stopped to talk to a friend. When I pulled out I lit em up a little. Well, my luck a cop was coming up from behind hidden in a bunch of traffic. No sooner did I pull out that I saw her.
Naturally she pulled me over. I explained that I just bought the car and was rusty on stick and was having trouble with the clutch. Explained that I was sorry and I must have given it too much gas. She could tell by my paperwork that I had just bought the car and I honestly hadn't driven stick for years, so I was somewhat telling the truth. Anyway, she gave me a lecture and told me to drive safe.
No more than 2 weeks went by and I was driving on one of the main roads. Where it became two lanes, I took off around a couple cars that were poking around. I might have hit 55 in a 35 at most. Anyway, I didn't notice one of those new Impala's unmarked in the line of cars I went around. There was no sign that it was a cop car and I hadn't realized the local police had just purchased one of those. Anyway, before I know it he's coming up from behind with his lights flashing.
I did the same thing as you, admitted I was speeding and didn't give him any shit. He said I seemed like a nice guy and explained that he was going to give me a ticket, but not a speeding ticket. It was a violation of traffic signals or something, $93 fine, no points. I was relieved. I don't mind the $93, the points are what kills me.
Needless to say, I've been taking it easy. This car attracts way too much attention to be in a hurry to go anywhere. I'll be switching to yellow any day now and I know I'll really stick out then, so I'll have to watch it. Of course, that kinda gives me good reason NOT to speed, I need to work on lowering my insurance rates by going ticket free for a while.
