8.5K kilometres and still using oil
#1
Checked my oil today and down about a quart. Last oil top-up maybe 6 weeks ago. I'm convinced a few days hard(er) driving and VTECing will definitely burn oil.
I know it's been regurgitated multiple times but new owners should check their oil on a regular basis.

Mine kept using oil until 12-14k miles. Now that I have 20k miles, it uses very little even though I hardly get out of VTEC. I probably add about 1/4 qt. every 1000 miles.
I check my oil every fill-up, which is about every 3rd day.

My '93 Prelude VTEC still uses oil, but only when I cruise the interstate. It has 43,000 miles on the odometer. I can go for months and years of around town driving and never add a drop. However, when I drive at 80 mph on the interstate, I can easily burn a quart per 1,000 miles.
Since buying my S2K, I've taken to checking the oil level at every gasoline fill-up on both cars.

this may not be the case with your cars, but Honda engineers have stated that if you use synthetic oil too soon (<10k miles), the car will burn oil even after the 10k mile mark. Within the first 5-7k miles before the engine is broken in, it is expected to burn some oil anyway.
Beyond that, the other situation of oil consumption is in high g turns.
