6th gear- for what?
from the topic you can probably tell that my car is usually not on the freeway...
took it to the dealer for service and that meant a freeway trip. normal freeway driving (70+) and in 5th gear most of the way with low rpms. was wondering what 6th was for. cant imagine that i should be in 6th at 70! did not seem like i needed an overdrive type of gear...
is 6th just a high speed road gear?
your thoughts?

Simple answer, for fuel economy and for getting to 166 (with engine modifications of course..)
On a highway that is 70 mph speed limit I go from 80-90 mph normally and I use 6th for that..

will try it today...
so you do use it like an overdrive gear!?
seems to me that it would lug the engine, but i guess if you need to accelerate, you just downshift?

The first time I really appreciated my 6th gear is when I was at 137mph @9000 rpm in 5th. A slick shift into 6th and my baby just kept on going
That, sir, is what our 6th gear is for

6th gear is for getting 24 mpg in mixed driving despite driving like a mad man on the surface streets.
I have found myself using 6th and 5th at much lower speeds lately. Despite the dunder heads who claim that the car has no torque, I find that in most conditions, there is plenty of torque to avoid "lugging the engine". This keeps my gas tank full a little longer and my fiancee happy (she says I drive to fast ).
