Default 60K service

I just had my 60k service done today. I don't take my car to the Honda dealer anymore--and goto my honda certified mechanic that my family has been using for years now.

Anyways, I was looking at the work they did and noticed they changed the rear diff fluid. Is this the same or separate from the transmission fluid? Probably should be an easy question.

Diff fluid is the rear end. It's also known as the "pumpkin". It is the thing that is in the middle of the rear axle. The transmission is the thing that is attatched to the rear of the engine.

how important is it to have the scheduled maintenance upgrades done? My car now has 35,000 miles and I haven't done the dealer reccomended 30,000 mile service done. Is it really needed or is it just a reccomendation?

I don't want to sound too sarcastic, but are you my wife? Have you changed your oil yet? Sorry, I couldn't resist!

to answer S2kny, these kinds of "services" are price gouging at its finest IMO.

you can likely do the same "60k" service all on your own, for probably 80 bucks. where they charge you probably 400 or more.

there are PLENTY of FAQs on both service intervals, and what needs to be done, as well as DIYs in the UTH forum on how to do them all yourself.

also, rickjames, do you know what kind of fluid he put in your diff? Was it GL5 rated?

I agree, make sure he did not use any old diff fluid, b/c the same stuff in a Honda CRV will kill a Honda S2000 (it's diff anyway) and most Honda mechanics don't know that if they don't service an s2000 regularly.

I'll check on what they put in--nah def not tao auto. D&E quality service off Departure Drive.

I know the difference between the diff and the transmission. I didnt know if they used the same fluid or not
