Default 60,000 mile service

is it worth getting the 60,000 mile service done on the s2k?? the local honda dealership around here charges like $500 to do it, i looked online to see exactly what is done and most if it seems like pretty basic stuff like changing your oil, adding fuel injector cleaner and, putting in new tranny fluid and stuff like that.. doesnt seem over all to be worth paying $500 for... can anyone give me some insite as to wether or not its worth it??

It's worth it to actually perform all the maintanence, but whether or not you'd like to shell out the cash or do it yourself is up to you.

If that's all it is, then it is definitely not worth it. I changed the differential and transmission fluid myself with mobil 1 synthetic. =)

I highly doubt your dealer will even perform all those minor checks. Sad but true. I think they'll probably just end up changing your fluids and filters.

mine was 460 but i'm not a mechanic guy. To me, I thought the price was too high but if anything was wrong I could have the dealer to blame. The car felt alot smoother afterwards and all the problems I had vanished. Shifting became much easier (especially after that horrible day) One thing though, they didn't fricking vacumm my interior! I hear getting oil changes you get vacumm'd.

its true. your paying $500 for fluid changes and a new cabin filter. hopefully a new air filter too.

they dont rotate your tires since the fronts and backs are different sizes and im pretty sure the tires are directionals.

i doubt they check half that stuff besides your brakes. then they tell you that you need new brake pads.

the spark plugs are good to 105k miles in the s2k according to the service manual, so they wont be changing those either.

its a waste of a few hundred bucks.

if you can, change your own oil, trans fluid, diff fluid, cabin and air filter and save about $400. all you really need is a jack and a few tools.

Most of these "CHECK" items would probably take them less than a couple of minutes. You could check these items yourself and probably better in 15-20 minutes.
Instruct them not to check anything(already done). Instruct them to change all fluids and filters.
Benefit of a doubt- A two hour job @ $100/hr plus parts $100est= $300 estimated.
Save $200.

The thing is, if you really have to ask, you probably not really that good mechanically or around cars.

just have the dealer do it for you, sure some of the item takes no time to check but it makes a difference between trained eyes vs average joe's

plus it's a GOOD investement anyway, esp when you selling the car, i would give more money knowing the previous guy didn't just give it a hug for good luck at 60k

ask nicely for them to check the condition of the retainer also
