Default 5pt. Harness

Has anyone added 4 or 5 pt. harnesses to their S2000? I saw that Comptech's car has a 4 pt. harness--any way to modify the stock seats to accomplish this or do the stockers need to be replaced?

Also, what are the anchor points for the belts behind the seat?

You'll have to replace the stockers. Few are running aftermarket "belt through" seats here which allow for the 4-5 point lock up. Might want to look into Summit Racing, Simpson, or a board sponsor (think Comptech has a set).

Please consider that a 4 or 5 point harness may be more dangerous in the event of a rollover according to posters in other discussions of this topic. It was suggested that many of us have heads that stick up above the stock roll hoops, and in the event of a rollover you may be able to avoid injury by leaning over when using a 3-point belt. A 4 or 5 point harness would lock you in an upright position.

Clearly the 4 or 5 point harness benefits driving position and control, and may be safer in non-rollover accidents - just bear in mind some possible unanticipated outcomes.

As coraldoc says it may be more dangerous. If you plan to run Solo2 with the SCCA the use of a shoulder harness is not alowed in a open car unless you have a roll bar that extends above the drivers helmet. Other clubs may have different rules.

What they said, but I'd go further. I wouldn't want 5 point belts unless I had a full cage. Consider a rollover where the windshield frame collapsed, you wouldn't want to be strapped upright in the seat.

There is no way that you'll be able to control your body position during a roll over. In the event of a roll over there are much more powerful forces at work than your lower back strength.

Sorry, but I have twice seen rollovers at autocrosses where the drivers had enough presence of mind to lean over the center console (toward the passenger side) when they rolled. (Neither car had a roll bar.) Both were wearing lap/shoulder belts; if they had been wearing 4-, 5- or 6-point belts that held their bodies upright, both of them would have been seriously injured or killed. In one case, the windshield frame flattened completely, so the car was resting upside-down on its trunk lid and hood

I think the idea is that if you get in a roll over you can flex forward as opposed to your head being push down in to your shoulders like that game in chucky cheese with the big hammer and the gophers..

What kind of cars where these? How did they roll over on a flat surface? This is very interesting and I'd like to know more. Anyone else seen autocross roll overs?
