Read my post again, and look at my signature. There is no way a Comptech supercharged car with stock gearing is going to keep up with my car with 4.30 gears, but you missed something important.
If you read the post carefully you'll see that in the very part you quoted I mentioned my supercharger, and I've also got an FI badge in my signature. So I'll repeat the question. When is the supercharged car with stock gears going to catch up?
(The answer is, "After an extended period of time traveling in excess of 160 MPH, and I don't know any place where that's possible." )
Anyway, you're right about 4.57's being about the same as SC up to about 80 MPH, and a lot cheaper to boot. With just gears the car with lower gearing (higher numerically) is going to be quicker until it tops out, then the car with higher gearing (lower munerically) is going to start catching back up (assuming all else is equal).

Now to answer your question correctly, a SCed s2k with stock gears is (IMO) never going to catch your car. Basically your correct, the only real time is when you max out your speed and the 4.10s max its speed up...then it can slowly creep up and pass you

I haven't tried anything but the 4.30's, but I think anything lower (numerically higher) might be too low for autocrossing. I can still run the slower courses without shifting, and becaue the slow courses are always so tight and busy not having to shift is important (at least to me ). On more open courses I have to shift sometimes when I would not have had to shift with the stock gears, but since the course is more open and less busy it's not a problem. For me at least, with the SC/AC, I'm sure 4.57's would be too much, but I believe that will also be the case with a stock motor.
Have any of you autocrossers tried 4.57 gears?
For street use with a stock motor 4.57's look like the best choice to me, and I believe the 4.57's are stronger than the other ratios. If I wasn't FI and didn't autocross that's the way I'd go.

Most autoxs I've been on you stay in 2nd gear pretty much the whole time (they are low speed track setups usually at Etown). Occasionally you'll be at ~3-4k rpms in 2nd for a second or two, the 57s give you the down low torque you need to accelerate back into the powerband.
They are definatly great for autoX
I'm getting a SC at the end of next month and I have the 57s. Should make for a very fun time
If anyone wants to, search for my impressions on the 4.57s. I've recieved many PMs saying how informative my post was. Might do everyone some good on how great the 57s are.

Again, can anyone pleeeeease post direct links to the vid's so I can see them here at work. Can't go to the site officially but I can link to the movies directly to download if there is such an option on the page. I don't want to have to wait until I get home, that's just toooo long and I'm toooo bored.

On paper 77>57>4.10, The only advantage the 4.10 has is a higher top speed. So on a mostly straight track, 4.10 wins hands down. On a road course, I dunno, I'd guess that stock gearing is better once your up to speed, but there it's a toss up.
Other than stop light drag racing, what's the advantage.

On a road course...it depends on the course really so its hard to say.
In a drag race, same thing. A geared s2k will always win all else being equal
