350z and RX 8
Anybody have any opinions on what will happen when these models hit the dealers within the next year? How is honda going to compete and will it be cheaper to purchase an MY2003 (not $3000 over MSRP) now that there are alternatives?
Anythougts?

I love both cars and I'm really temped by the RX-8. Hot cars, but neither are convertibles. The reason I bought an S2K was because I wanted to go top-down. I doubt the pricing will change. The car is bargain, even a 3K over invoice.

pretty sure I read somewhere (motor trend I think) that the 350z is coming out with a convertible in 2004..could be a rumor though..the base price for these autos are around 30,000 plus they have more torque and hp. I think the s2000 will have some hefty competition in the future

I hope everyone runs out and buys them immediately and leaves the S2K alone. This will make our's that much more exclusive. Besides, Honda may be tempted to find more HP and torque as a result and then I trade mine in for the newer model. Either way, we win!!!

Both are formidable cars & should sell well. However they won't be direct competition for the S. As both are fixed roof, as of now anyway. Yes Nissan will have a droptop Z in 04. Apples to oranges though. The Z is quite a bit larger than the S. One thing to consider, nearly all cars that were originally designed with a fixed roof & then lop it off as an after thought usually have lot's of cowl shake etc. Even Toyota couldn't get it right, Camry Solara softop as an example. Cars designed as a convertible from the beginning usually don't have this shortcoming. S2000, MR-2 Spyder, Z8 & so on....

GREAT question....
Performance
I think the 350Z will be faster (i.e.0-60 and 1/4 miles times) than both the RX-8 and the S2000.
I do think the S2000 will faster than the RX-8
Looks
I gotta go with the S2000 the looks of this car is so classy. But ofcourse I have yet to see the other two up close and personal so my definitive thoughts would have to wait until then.
Purpose
I gotta go with the convertible...one you go topless you never go back (or was that black)
In any case as someone mentioned above the 350Z will be coming out with a convert soon.
If I were you I would wait until they all come out then see. There is nothing worse then buying the wrong car.
