Clearly there will be a lot more of the 350Zs than S2000s (at least after the second year as they have a little catch up to do).

There is a site that had a survey of about 150 pre-orders, and only 5 or so were base models, which ran for $27,000...
The bulk were the enthusiast models and touring, which are from $29k - $34k.
Based on sheer price alone, it won't be a mustang...

I guess there are just different kinds of enthusiasts, some want excusivity and others just want excellent performance. IF, again IF the 350z lives up to it's performance expectations, whats the big deal if it's more common than an S. Look at the amounts of Mustang Cobras sold vs GT's vs V6's. As the cost goes up, purchases go down. I firmly believe that every Tom, Dick, and Harry will not be picking up a $35,000, stiffly sprung, Track edition, 2 seat 350Z.

The way I look at it you are a winner no matter which car you decide. But how about this. Lease the S2000 now. That way you are only commited for the next three years or whatever the term of the lease is. At the end of the lease you can decide if you would like to keep your car or get the 350z at that time. I dont know about you but I dont know if I can wait a few months for the 350z. And by owning the S2000 for the next few years you can wait for all the mods for the 350z to come on to the market. Heck, studies show that people who buy cars like these change cars once every 2-3 years anyway. IMHO

I also looked at the 350z b4 I bought my s2000 about a month ago, and the main reason I choose the s2000 is the price. Yes 350z is aiming around $30g, but when I went to the nissan web site, they have 5-trimmed levels of 350z, and various at price. For the base level of 350z which priced at close to $30g, and practically have no good options I want, then they have the trimmed level like performance, which you get all the good performance parts but loss the comfort, then touring option you lose the performance etc., and you just cant have it all. As S2000, you have one-trimmed level with very few equipments are optional.

Bullish,
I also was thinking of getting a Z. I actually had a deposit down since March 2001 (yes over a year ago). I decided to go with the S2K instead, because of the following:
1. My local Honda dealer knocked over $2K off of MSRP. This made it cheaper than the Z that I wanted (leather, Xenon Headlights, 6-speed)
2. I took a used S2K for a test drive ... wow. I love the way it handles. I also found out that the low torque stuff was overblown and I experienced VTEC for the first time!
3. It's a convertible
4. When the final version of the Z came to the Chicago auto show, I was not that crazy about the final shape. Also, it was a fully decked out version. I wanted to see what the standard options would look like ... 17" wheels, no Nav, etc.
5. I could not wait until late Summer/early Fall to get my car. I wanted to enjoy it this summer. Enjoy it now ... you never know when your time is up. I call this the 9/11 effect.
6. Most importantly ... this is going to sound corny ... this forum. I hung around one of the 350Z forums for a while and I did not feel a good vibe. A lot of flaming. So far, the people on this forum have been very cool. They also seem to know their stuff. I also like that in general they do not bash other cars.
I do like that the Z has almost 300 HP and lots of torque. The reason I first was interested in it was that it reminded me of a Porsche 911 (very nice). It would also have been nice to be the first on my block to get one.
Besides for the S2K, we own another Honda and a Nissan. They have been flawless cars (knock on wood). I think that you can not go wrong with either car. Do what make you happy. Regardless of what you get, let us know what happens and how you like the car.
Regards,
Al

One thing that is weird is that the only way to get factory leather is to get the Touring package that comes standard with an automatic. It sucks too that they early buyers don't have any option to get a sunroof (and you know darn well Nissan will add that later).
