3300 miles and leaking oil? :(
#1
i have had to fill up a quart and a half of oil over the last month and i don't know if this is normal or not. i broke the car in properly, stayed below 5500 RPM from 14 miles (when i got it) to about 670 miles or so. i noticed my oil was 1 notch above a month ago or so, it stayed that way for a week, and i topped it off. then last weekend i noticed it was back to being 1 notch above. filled up oil yesterday. checked each time i drove the car, the ground was either clear, or had a very small spot. then earlier today i took the car for a fairly long drive (50 miles, 20 of them uphill and downhill on curvy roads). i was just enjoying the drive, and was driving < 4000 rpm the whole time. earlier when i got around to moving the car, there was several patches of oil. so once i got to my destination i checked the oil, and i was down a notch (both sides reading the same). i am somewhat concerned now. should the car be leaking oil?
i am going to setup an appointment with the dealer, but figured you folx are likely to know good info on this.

Hi Siva
Not normal. Some few S2000s (and Acura CL-Ss) have had problems with porous blocks. If you do a search using "porous" as the key word, you will see some threads and pictures posted about this problem. Good luck.

Siva,
I had lunch with Ultimate Lurker a few weeks ago and we talked about the oil consumption thing. The only time he ever notices his oil level drop is when he takes it out on some twisties and drives it really hard. I'm not sure what causes the oil loss though, probably some oil spilling out when taking hard corners. I haven't had any oil consumption problems. However, it does sound like your car is leaking since there are spots on the ground. I'd take it into the dealer to look at.
Keep us posted on what happens to the car.

You fail to mention where the oil is dripping from? Run your finger around the oil filter..this is the most common one to "relax" under vibration and hot/cool cycles. If so tighten her up. If you see it's at the back of the engine then you may have a failing main seal...not good. Level of concern is related to where the oil is coming from.

There have been four porous blocks reported by three owners so far in this forum. One unlucky owner in Sydney had two porous blocks.
This thread has details about all four.
