$3000... Under the Hood or Hardtop
Now remeber, my soft top was slashed and ignition coils stolen.. a week 1/2 ago.. i got my insurance money.. plus im adding in some money of my own.. ($3 grand will be after a soft top.. if i buy one)..
So the question is.. Should I buy a hardtop or just get another soft-top and buy other parts?
If you think I should buy other parts.. what should I buy.. (remembering my S is bone stock since I've been deployed and havent had time to buy parts yet..)

look at where you are parking it
someone will be back to cut your top again
if you get a HT where will you put in during the nice summer days?
if you buy a used SoftTop buy a use a SC

They slashed your top and only took the coils? Totally whacked.
So what's more important to you personally? Improved looks/security or performance gains? Throw the dough under the hood and you've just really started to make minor gains. The cheapest improvements come with blowing the engine and 3K might buy a (good) used SC. Then you have to consider the diff weakness and a stronger clutch. Extra $$ for mental stress relief.
Most seem to agree that other than a SC the best bang for the buck is to change the rear gear. IMO that would give you the best performance mod with no strings attached - although make sure you're OK with the minor tradeoffs.
It's very easy to see how 3K will just get you started on performance mods - unless you're simply interested in going the H/I/E route that will give you incredibly lame returns you might consider the hardtop. It's all inclusive, looks great, offers added security, and IMO just changes the look of the car.

Get the soft top and spend the extra $$$ perfecting a system that will run 1000 volts through the metal soft top frame...that way if someone tries slashing it and hits a part of it or reaches in, they will be crispified instantly.

I'd fix the soft top, but that's just me.
Note, if you do buy a hardtop, this is money that can be reclaimed in resale someday, versus modifications which are worth nothing (mostly).
