Car dealers rely on their Parts/Service departments for a big part of their revenue. In my opinion, services like these are a scam. $350 for some fluids and a "walk around" inspection? A good technician could have your car done in under an hour. $350 for an hour? They make you think that if you don't get these done, you'll be compromising your warranty.
The problem is, it's hard to put a price on service. A service that seems like a ripoff to one person may be worth it to another. I can do the work myself. I'm on a military base with an autoshop. We've got lifts for $2 an hour and just about every tool you could possibly need. We've even got an alignment rack and can get a 4 wheel alignment done for $55. So, it'd take some heavy service or warranty work to get me to take my car to the dealer.
You own a Honda. The car will be fine just getting its fluid changes without someone "inspecting" little butt$hit items that may sound important to someone that has no clue about cars. Buy a Honda filter and some Mobil 1 for the motor and diff and bring it to a small shop that specializes in Hondas or Japanese cars. You'd be suprised that you can actually get good service at small shops because they don't rely on highway robery to survive. They rely on return customers.
My wife, who is living in NY right now until I move in April, just got the 30k service on her RSX. It cost her over $400. Of course she didn't tell me this until after she got it done. I was ready to choke her.

What are the service intervals for the S in North America?
In Europe, they're 9k, (18k, 27k, etc), so I'm a bit confused by the 30k service.

Hey, Wisconsin... Do you guys have an active local S2000 community up there? Here in New England, the guys get together a few times a year and we do fluid changes and other things during tech days... See if you can hook up with those folks.

For driving distances neither are we.
Okay, change it to "in the UK, we're on 9,000 mile intervals..."
So whats the US interval?
I believe the intervals for the S are 15k, 30k, 45k,... and so on, as is fairly typically with most cars in our market. I'm under the understangin that only the higher end cars (interpreted as Ferrari/Lambo/etc) have smaller intervals such as 5k, 10k, 15k.... you get the picture.
Hope that answers your question.
