Get a house, $20,000 on a car is just a waste of money. I love my S but when i think back i should've kept my paid off 01 Prelude and invested in a house!!! but thats just me. A few years from now, after you are more into your career and get that nice raise then go for it. But for now get yourself a house!!! The house will bring you more security and RESPECT than the S ever will.

Shit who am i kidding, i can't even follow my own ing advice so what the hell. Its a big decision, you need to meditate and think about it.

As far as insurance, it's the same as my Prelude. I'm 22 BTW. $900/6 months.

A little better gas mileage though 25mpg while the lude got 22mpg.
I hope you really don't go out in the world and buy things for RESPECT

Actually you won't save money on insurance with the WRX except for the fact you can ditch the acura.

The base 227 hp wrx has a higher insurance symbol than a 350z or s2000. IE , it costs more. God help you if you want an STI.
Interesting.. i just figured that the S would have higher insurance than my Integra, and also that it would be higher than the WRX. Something about a RWD 2-seat convertible roadster made me think that. Silly me. I'll have to call up the insurance company and find out what the real story is. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought!

Again, I appreciate all of your input.

I had a GSR previously... and went to the S... insurance definitely was higher everywhere I called... now a few years have passed and its pretty low now.. but when i first started it was pretty hefty. Guess insurance really depends on how long you've been with the company, driving record, age, etc... so its hard to say whether its gonna be more or less for you until you call

Hi All,

Obviously I have been around these boards for a while now without posting much - the reason being that I dont own an S2000. So here's the story: I've been in love with this car since I first saw the prototype before the 2000 model came out and have been reading about it, and wanting it for quite a long time. At 16 years old I spent most of my life savings on an Integra that I have been driving ever since and the car is doing just fine.

Current situation: I am 22 years old, graduated from college with a degree in Computer Science, and working a fine job. The job doesn't pay a ton, but it pays enough for the bills and to live a reasonably comfortable life. I've had the integra for 6 years and it's nearing its 10th birthday, so I really want a new car.

Obviously my #1 choice would be to get the S2000 (used) that i've wanted for so many years. Another option is to get a new WRX that would be much more practical, new, still fun, but (IMO) not as much fun as the S. The third, and most reasonable option would be to keep the Integra for a few more years and just save the money. I have gotten advice from my girlfriend, mom, and friends, but now I want advice from my fellow car nuts who know how bad lust for a new car can get. So here are my options in "reasonable decision" order, which also happen to be the inverse of "what I want" order:

1. Keep the integra, drive it for a few more years, save your money, be sad that I dont have a new car.

2. Buy a WRX, enjoy the car, drive it all-year-round, sell the integra, have a brand spanking new car, have the insurance go up a bit.

3. Buy a used S2000, LOVE the car, drive it only summers, keep the integra for winter, have insurance go way up

What do you guys think? I'm also open to new suggestions, such as maybe a used STi? Also can anyone around my age tell me how bad the insurance is? I'm not even sure if I can afford option 3.

I appreciate your input

edit: wow i've been around here almost 4 years! My how time flies when you're graduating highschool, flying through college, and starting a new job.
Option 1 is the smart choice. Patience is everything. When you get ahead financially, you will have plenty of opportunities in your long-life to own cars like the S2K and even better.

I'm in a similar position and I'll tell you that I'm doing everything that I can to get the S- it's what I've wanted since day one and I'm going to get it. There is no substitute-

When you are at ur early to mid-20s ... u have time to make the money back. Just make sure you don't keep yourself in constant debt when you do mods. Otherwise I'm sure you'll have a blast with ur S! I'm saying this because I'm in a similar situation

Congrats man, awesome car.
How'd your insurance come out compared to the teggy?

Thanks all

As for the insurance.. it HURTS. it's really high. The only way I can afford the insurance is to garage the s2k for half the year while I drive the teg and vise versa. I also took off the body damage insurance on the teg, so if I crash it, i'm gonna have to pay for the repairs. The s2k insurance is costing me 5x more (no exageration) than the teg.

It's worth every penny though. I'm having an absolute blast with this thing! I put 120 miles on day one, and I have the sunburn to prove it!
