I couldn't even get 2qts in with the car slightly tilted the other way.
I got like 1.7qt in there... how did he do three??
pumped it in from the top bolt??
that would fill it to the top

Went back got it straightened out with the head service manager. He agreed that there is no way to put 3 quarts in the tranny. Apparently the parts department chart shows 3 quarts so that is what they gave the tech. He loaded all 3 quarts into a pump of some sort. He filled the trans and stopped pumping when the oil came out of the fill/full level plug. He didn't look in the pump afterwards, but there must have been a quart and a half left in there. Service manager credited me for one quart.

I am told the trans cannot be overfilled. Excess oil will flow out of the fill hole.

Thanks for your inputs!

I think the Honda service guide that all dealers use was written by some bean counter who can't tell the difference between tranny fluid and a dry martini. He gets what info he can and compiles this info in the guide that is distributed to all dealers. The dealer service writer prints out what the guide says and charges you for it. The tech gets his fluids from a bulk container and shoves in what the car needs. He doesn't tell the service writer how much he put in. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and both hands are in your pocket.
Did you also know that a tire rotation is part of your car's maintenance routine?

I don't understand. I rotate my tires everytime I drive.

BTW -- That still does not explain the 3 washers for the tranny.

Oh, and just to clarify. The excess fluid would come out the fill hole as long as it's too high AND they let it drain. It is possible to overfill the tranny AND the diff, if you replace the fill bolt before it finishes draining.

I believe there are vents in both the diff and tranny that will allow excess fluid out, but that could get a little messy if they REALLY overfilled.

Actually no deal at all.

1. Charged for something he didn't receive (3 qts)
2. 3 washers? Again another charge for something he didn't get
3. How much did they charge for a qt of Mobil 1 gear oil = $17.50!!!! For a $6 bottle on the shelf at Kragen!?!?! Nice markup, jerks.

No big deal? Just a big REAM JOB!!!

Did they at least kiss you first, or buy you dinner?
