3 qts of MTF in a 1.6 qt transmissiom?
Just had my transmission fluid and differential fluid changed at the local Honda dealer this morning. MY2002, 12,000 miles. Was getting occasional 2nd gear grind so thought I would try having fluid changed. Had diff oil changed at same time for the hell of it.
Details:
Diff service
Labor: $36
2 washers: $4.12
Mobile 1 75/90 : $17.50
Transmission service:
Labor: $24.00
3 washers: $1.29
3 quarts Honda MTF: $13.98
GRAND TOTAL: $104.65 with tax.
While in the waiting room, reading my owner's manual, I read that the transmission capacity was 1.6 quarts. When the bill showed 3 quarts used, I questioned it and the service manager went to the parts department. They confirmed that the quantity should be 3 quarts. Manager then went to the technician who did the work and he confirmed he had put almost 3 quarts in the transmission before it showed full.
Is the owner's manual wrong? Did the transmission get overfilled? Your thoughts?
By the way, the transmission feels smoother now.

Go back and bitch-slap the fools that supposedly confirmed this info.
You can have dozens of owners on this site tell you, they overfilled your tranny - big time. Either that or they lied to you and milked you for some extra fluid.
Geez, who do they think they are fooling?
I smell refund!!!!!
p.s. Don't drive it long like that.

I just changed my transmission fluid this weekend (it's easy) and it took about 1.7 quarts. I even tilted the car a bit to put just a touch more fluid in. No way you could get 3 quarts in there unless you put the car on its side, or maybe leave the drain bolt out for the 1st quart. Morons.

3 quarts is somewhat understandable... they could have emptied the tranny, plugged up the drain, filled with 1 quart, then drained that (in an attempt to drain all old fluid or at least dilute it) then plug it up and continue on...
i guess that's why they needed 3 washers? use two on the drain bolt (once for the fill/drain to dilute, once for the final fill) but they could have used the original washer for the first fill/drain.
Hockey plus a little cash on the side is always good
aero, if i were you, i'd switch out the clutch fluid as well.

In addition, we (as owners) don't get hosed like this.

Have you ever known a dealership to care about the cleanliness of your tranny enough to go through that step?
