Default 3:00 am with the top down

Like many here once were, I'm on that magical cusp that exists just before the purchase of an S2000. Right now, I'm fantasizing about the fun things you might be able to do with the top down. The idea of a roadster is beginning to dawn on me.

One thing that seems like it would be fun is to go for a top down ride on some back country roads in the early hours of the morning.

Complete tranquility, fresh air, the stars, the moon, and that machined aluminum and leather shifter.

I have just one question about the S2K: Is this a car or the best toy every made?

Last night was my best night with the S so far. I went to the city(New York) to met some friends at a bar and ofcourse put it in a garage. After the bar i showed some of my friends the car and they loved it. Then we went for a ride around NYC at like 1:30 and got more looks than you would believe. It was the perfect night! Way home was a great ride. Solid night!

my wife and i drove back from Mass. last weekend. got on the road at 3:30AM. top down. cool, almost chilly, moist air. virtually had the road (I-195 and I-95) to ourselves. it felt like we could keep the sunrise at bay, as long as i kept the go pedal mashed to the floor. made incredible time. put the top up when we got to the first stop on the NJ Tpk.

we did the 485 miles trip in 6hrs 10 mins. one of my personal bests. thank you valentine one.

but back to your question.... it's a toy. we couldn't get by with this as our first or second car. the trunk is bigger than you'd expect, but you are so severely limited on the practicality side. since you live in socal, you don't have the weather issues that the rest of us must face, but there will be times when you need or want to carry more than one person and a couple of grocery bags.

good luck with your decision.

Another good time to drive is right before the sun rises. Sometimes the moon is still out and some of the brighter stars are shining and the eastern sky looks gorgeous. Then there's sunset. That's a good time as well.

I took a drive yesterday just as the sun was starting to drive. It was an unbelievable experience...

But back to reality, it's still a toy. If I was just starting a family or needed extra space for storage or passengers, I probably couldn't have gotten away with getting this car.

Funny you should ask...

I took out the car last night around 1:30AM because I was sitting around the house quite bored. I went for an hour long drive, with the top up unfortunately(I'm not too big on the top down), and proceeded to thrash the unsuspecting bar wenches coming home from their night of drunkeness. I swung through a small town nearby and had some fun with the local shitkickers coming out of the country bar trying to race their trucks up and down the feeder. It's amazing how fast some of these guys think their trucks are.

The strange thing to me about the S2000 is that it is the ONLY car I have ever owned that I do not want to stop driving. Every other car I enjoy for a brief period of time but then get a little fatigued by it. This car just keeps the fun factor so high that when I take it out of the garage, it is going for at least a thirty mile jaunt.

What really confuses me are those people that have an unusually low amount of miles on their car compared to how long they have had it. I have seen some owners talking about their MY01's with less than 7,000 miles on their cars. MY 03 already has 7,500 miles. I think worrying about the depreciation that comes with mileage is something that should be overlooked with this car. A car should never be viewed as an asset. Whatever car you get just drive it and enjoy it......at 3AM if you should desire.

I take a 30 minute before bed, each night, and sleep better.

Oh yeah...HURRY UP and get one already.

I feel all the sentiments expressed in this thread so far.

This car is pure toy and that's why I love driving it. Like honda606 said, "I do not want to stop driving."

And top down driving at night is the best thing for me.
