Cool, thanks Big Ben. I'm surprised that others have run into the same issue before. All this time, I thought folks were just getting the 2nd gear grind and that was it. I guess there's at least some sort of sick albeit unfortunate comfort in knowing that some of you guys have encountered problems as well. Keep me posted man.

I apologize in advance - this is a long posting:
I have a '03 model and first experienced the 1-2 upshift grind at around 1200-1500 miles (coincidentally, shortly after I noticed the transmission fluid color - from the factory - was way too dark - and changed it). The grind typically occurred above 7000 RPM (at first) or occasionally when the car was cold. I had the occasional grind at any given RPM as well, typically when the transmission was warm

I would try adding a bit more fluid for the transmission and see if it helps lube it.
I pumped almost two qt. in mine instead of the recommended 1.7qt.
I notice more resistance in shifting but once warmed up it still shifts like butter.

I see I responded back in 2004. Well in 2010 I have now 46,000 miles and no issues with the gearbox. Fluid changed out with Honda fluid once at 30,000 miles. When cold the first few shits are a bit stiff, nothing new, but butter smooth after warmup, no grind. The car took about 10,000 miles for a decent breakin of the engine, miles per gallon improved and the gearbox became smoother.

Sometimes a car is just not right from the factory or when you live with it after purchase, no seen as a warranty issue, but if the warranty was better it would be(as in longer).
In my expeience if it is not right it never will be, in that one problem after another crops up, if this is the case sell the car while you can....if you are not satisfied, drive another to see if it is better or different, if that is the case then sell it and buy another one, there are plenty around and the money you spend to get a better over all example will be well spent.

Hi all,

Just bought my first 2005 Honda S2000 about 2 month ago. Already had my second and third gears grind a few times. Also, about a week ago I had my first gear pop out and I heard a loud bang. I thought someone hit me in the rear.
I did a lot of research in the past week and even called America Honda but no help from them either. They told me they never heard about this problem. I am about to replace my transmission fluid with original Honda manual transmission oil. My mechanic told this morning that it will be a waste of money if I went and replaced my transmission fluid. He told me it will not help. He said I need to rebuild my tranny. Did someone have the same problem? After replacing the transmission fluid, was shifting gears much smoother and no more gear grind? Or maybe I do need to rebuild my tranny? Thank you.
