2nd gear grind fix - gear break in period
I *finally* got my 2nd gear grind fixed - picked up the car earlier today.
I was told that I shouldn't rev past 4000 rpms for 1000 miles That didn't really make a whole lot of sense to me. Then I checked out the tsb and it said do not exceed 4000 rpms for the first 12 shifts into 4th gear.
So which one is it? Was anybody else told not to exceed 4000 rpms for 1000 miles?

a car is either built right or it isn't.
Wear and tear is necessary on some parts, "breaking it in".
1255 on mine today, 2nd gear has caused me a few problems, just get the cltuch in and pull the shifter down into it. I noticed this also, I think it is a characteristic of the car. Go on to a long street low speed and 1st to second, 22nd to 1st, as many time as you can, get it boken in. That is what I did today.
If the clutch is in properly and you are grinding, then you have a problem with the clutch or cable not being set properly.
I worked for a lady that had a 300zx turbo 1986 and until the car warmed up second was always a problem.

Gti vr6's have had this problem into second forever..it would grind on hard shifts from 1st. to 2nd. I have had no problems with my s2000 have about 900 miles on it and have vteced maybe 10 times since the 600 mile mark.....sometimes a slight clunk at low speeds from first to second but never a grind....
actually the higher rpm i have the smother the shifts.....good luck...keep the board posted!

I used to have problems with 2nd when it was cold. I had a couple grinds with it but now it is really smooth. At 2900kms, I think my tranny was finally broken in, hopefully this 3rd gear notch would go away later too.
