I felt that way for the first year I had the car. I was putting way to many miles on the car and using up too many expensive tires. I've had 6 sets (24 tires) in two years. Last July I bought a CRXsi and have a total including new tires of about $3500 in it and it's getting up to 43mpg while being fun to drive. It's sure no S2000 but I can use that money I'm saving on more S2000 tires.

I'm going to plug in the CRX #'s to see how much I really am saving. Nice job Shark.

According to the spreadsheet I made, it would actually cost me MORE money if I used the S2000 as my daily driver. The Kia is like a free car with $208 in the glove box every month.

Sorry, but by this line of thought, you are going to bang some senior citizen during the week and some gorgeous model on the weekends, why do it to yourself????

Why not have the gorgeous model all the time?

Not a hard decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Something a spreadsheet can't quite explain..... After all, its only money!

I would rather walk than drive a Kia! You should be ashamed of yourself!

Good job on the cost analysis.

Don't feel bad. The wife and I just bought a slightly used Ford Focus for use as my beater. I bought the S2000 last year as my daily driver (only 20 miles per day). However, with a growing family (one kid plus one on the way), we need to have two cars that could be used as family cars. The S2000, as much as I love it, just doesn't fit the bill, especially when it really is not a good idea to put a child safety seat on the passenger side. The wife also prefers me driving something with less than half the power and not nearly as much fun.

I did the 30k miles/year for a few years but don't now. Having done that much driving, I would hate to have to do it again, especially in an S2000. Instead, I'll beat the Focus into the ground during the colder months and enjoy the S2000 every weekend and during the summer.

Does anyone know where I can get a "My Other Car is an S2000" license plate frame for the Focus?

No, that makes me a true enthusiast who doesn't buy a car for status purposes.

Shark, do you really only pay $65 for two years insurance on the Kia and $140 for two years on the S2000????
