So, is it pretty much confirmed that the 2006 is the last s2000?

I can guarantee it! I've heard this since 2000, so it must be true.

As a potential s2000 owner who prefers to buy new cars, this is a pretty big disappointment. Get rid of the VSA, get rid of the new wheel design, get rid of the throttle-by-wire, and get rid of the new solid headrests. Take back the added weight and bring back the raw roadster. I'll keep the outside temp display, though, and the additional speakers and color option. Wait, actually that color can go, too. The older blue is much better.
It looks like if I'm in the market in a couple months I'll be looking at the new Miata MX-5, a left-over '05 S2k that hasn't been test-driven to hell and back (I bet that will be rare to find), or a non-roadster.

Some people here know the little details of the S2000 so well that they get caught up in the little changes and can't see the forest through the trees. Anyone who thinks that 30lbs and new headrests somehow makes the S2000 closer to a G35/Z than a Miata obviously hasn't driven one (well duh, they aren't even out yet). Throughout all of the changes that have been made since 2000 the S2k has retained a driving character that makes it feel like nothing else on the market, for better or worse. The changes are so incredibly minor compared to what has stayed the same, and what differentiates the S2000 from other cars.
For at least 15-20 years Honda has been making minor MMC updates to all of its cars. Things like bumpers and wheels always change every couple years. These changes have never really made the cars look better, just different. And looking back on them several years later the differences all seem pretty trivial.

New wheel design? Who cares, buy new wheels if they offend you that much.
DBW, I agree that it might suck. On the other hand, maybe Honda actually put some time into it and did it right.
The headrests, I like how the older ones fit a helmet, but none of us have tried the new ones yet..
20lbs isn't a big deal.
As for the old blue, it never went anywhere.
Color = subjective and personally the "old" blue is fugly IMO
Why look for a leftover 04.. seems like it'd be a lot more likely to get an 05. And if the above changes would make you buy a Miata instead, please do.
Seems like you should just go buy an 05 now and the rest of us will wait to at least TEST DRIVE a 2006 S2000 before making a decision.
