BUT...I think your statement here is dead on. Honda does appear to take seriously criticisms that limit sales...and that probably drives many of the changes we've seen over the years. As the car has aged, changes have been made to increase its appeal to a wider market.
Some exceptions may be for reliability (like the clutch delay valve) or possibly conformity of parts to other models (like the DBW).

That magazine excerpt sounds like its written by an amateur, for some unheard of magazine.
While I share a simular train of thought that the progression of the S2000 is unfavorable, I think Honda did the right thing in the changes they made. I enjoy the AP1, and therefore I own one, however the AP2 is an excellent car as well, just somewhat different. Had the AP2 been more affordable to me (had i been searching for an S2000 after graduating college) it is likely that I would have opted for the AP2, it does make a better daily driver.

Newer is always better...Honda wouldn't have added those new features if they didn't improve the car and make it more complete.
