Default 2004 splash shield retro kit

Is it a must that you buy this for the '04 front bumper conversion? If not is it pretty easy to modify the '01 splash shields so that the new bumper fits correctly?

Thanks

The new bumper will fit fine without the conversion kit. I put the 04 bumper on mine, and used the 02 splash shield. Later, I went ahead and installed the 04 splash shield, but in retrospect, it was a waist of money. The 04 shield is nothing more than the ealier model shield with some small addapter pieces pop riveted to it on the lower left and right side to match up a couple of fastener holes. You could make the pieces yourself or just live without them.

Anyone else done this and never put the '04 kit on and it works fine?

One more thing.. do you think this is a DIY job? Or should I probably take it to a shop?
