2004 Honda S2000 From NEW Motor Trend
From the October 2003 Motor Trend issue (New Car Buyer's Guide)...
"Honda's sporty two-seater gets a fairly major overhaul in '04 to make it friendlier for everyday driving. A 2.2-liter four cylinder engine replaces the former 2.0-liter version. Although it produces the same 240 horses, its torque band is improved so that maximum power is achieved at 7700 rpm instead of 8300. Max torque is now 163 lb-ft at 6500 rpm instead of 153 lb-ft at 7500 rpm-still a screamer compared to most cars. The car gets bigger 17-inch wheels, revised suspension and gearing, and new front and rear fascias and bumpers. The interior also has been freshened with added space."
Take it for what it's worth. We'll have to wait for Honda for the official word.

I think so many people on this board are so obviously threatened by the change! Get over it! You loved your car yesterday, you love it today -- will you love it any less tomorrow just because there is a more "public-friendly" model available? No, you will STILL love it!
So why must you bash the new one? Don't say some crap about it's "watering down the heritage" or something like that. It makes you sound like some kind of Honda-Nazi.
This car will still have about 90% of the same character as before, just a bit easier for Mr. Joe Public to drive. And admittedly, most people here are not Mr. Joe Public, and that's fine. You already own the car you want, and there will still be 20,000 used S2000's from 00-03.
My point is don't bash the car before it even comes out. If you think the current car is better than the one coming out, GOOD, you likely already own the better of the two (in your mind, at least -- and perception is 9/10ths of reality). I am looking forward to test driving this new model, and like the idea of 17" wheels and more spacious interior.

I don't mind the new model, I just hope they will continue to offer it only in manual transmission. I don't want a average joe faker posing in the car only because it's an automatic. Already too many of those in 350z's.

Man, I'm really on the fence about buying an 03 or 04. When they say "revised suspension" I wish we knew if that meant "improved" or "softened for ride at the expense of handling". Sounds like I need to make my decision soon...

My guess would be softer. Any harder and the ride would feel uncomfortable. I think it's perfecto just how it is. Needed added speed? Invest in a supercharger on a 00-03 model and you got the ADDED speed and originality of the REAL HARDCORE S2K!!! Just my opinion tho..

Well, yeah it can't really get any harder... I'm just wondering if they twiddled with it some without trying to make it a cushier ride. Dunno though, I like the 03 front bumper and wheels better already, so maybe my decision is made for me.
