A few years ago, several members sent a sample of their factory fill to Blackstone Labs for analysis. And each time they found a higher then normal amount of detergents and molybdenum disulfide(Moly) in the factory fill.

My honest opinion is we all have the right to offer free advice as to what we do with our cars, and what we think should be done. However, when what we recomend to others contradicts what the 'experts' say to do we should at least point this out.

srlmartin, I agree completely.
I appears that there are those on this forum who feel that they know more about the car's engine and how it should be treated than the engineers themselves.
Their arguments seem very hollow and all in all they just end up sounding like a group of smart alecks giving very poor advice to whoever would listen.

Let's look at some examples. In the early months of the S2000's existence, many of us tried to tell those on the forum that the spark plug torque was INADEQUATE for the task at hand and yes, there were people who said, "But the Honda engineers know what they are doing!" (yada, yada, yada) Low and behold, more months passed and a few cars turn up with grenaded engines. From what? ........... Spark plugs that backed out and caused fragmentation and ultimate cylinder demolition. THEN GUESS WHAT? Honda came out with a world wide recall to replace all spark plugs incorporating different stainless steel crush rings AND (GUESS WHAT?) ................ INCREASED torque.
Furthermore, the owner's manual says nothing specific about changing the rear diff fluid. Have you seen what your fluid looks like after the initial few thousand miles? Many of us here also advocate an early first change of this fluid. We have all been told that the S2000 rear diff is a weak point and some have grenaded due to "hard" use, yet some of us who subject our diffs to "hard" use have had no problems (as shown by oil analysis). Is it possible that those of us who do this change early and regularly are just a bit ahead of the game?
The owner's manual also says very little about changing the clutch fluid. Have you seen your clutch fluid after only a few months? Notice how many people report poor clutch action, grinding, notchiness? Wonder why?
I'm not going to tell you to listen to anybody. If you feel warm and cuddly holding onto your owner's manual, then please continue to do so. I'm sure Honda warranty will protect you 100% (or will they?).

Finally, people like Road Rage and myself are not twisting anyone's arms. It is unfortunate that some of you think we make "hollow" arguments and sound like smart allecks. At least for me, I wasn't arguing and I certainly do not mean to be a smart alleck.

It always makes me laugh when I read people espousing the "owners manual" like it was gospel. I think if you asked the engineers/designers their personal opinions directly, you would get many different answers from the boiler plate that is the manual. It is common knowledge that owners manuals are written with the lowest common denominator in mind. Perhaps that is why some people cling to them so tightly like a security blanket... Not citing anyone in particular of course
