Default 2004-2005 Radio cover plate

Is the radio cover plate for 2004-2005 a direct replacement for the 2000-2003 cover?

Er, I heard from people who've done the conversion that, for some reason, the spring from the pre-04 bracket is too weak to handle the new door. This results in the door not springing open when you push on it. Is this true?

I've got an '02 and did the swap at Christmas. No problem with the door opening at all. What you heard didn't make sense really, as the spring is just an assist. Gravity is doing most of the work anyway.

I did the swap, worked just like stock. Unfortunately the color of the silver door kind of clashes with the graphite trim from the 02-03 cars so I took it off. It's sitting in my garage, make offer if you need a new 04 door, still in the factory wrapper.

For the conversion, I have heard that you remove the whole trim of the radio lid including the air vent. I have also heard you can just remove the radio lid without removing the whole trim. So which is it, or does both way work?

it was not difficult to do at all. yes i believe you have to remove the outer trim, but it's extremely easy. i'd say the entire swap took me 15 minutes.
