2002 2nd gear grind question
Wondering if anyone is having the same thing happen to them.......
I have a 2002 S2k with 1500 miles on it. Sometime in hard driving I get serious 2nd gear grind and it won't go in very well. I would just think it was my fault but it has already happened about 8 or so times.
I saw the Service Bulletin on the 2nd gear grind that came out in 2000. Do you guys think that would still be a problem on a 2002 model?
I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem with their 2002?
Thanks........

Thanks for the info...
Are the shifts your talking about always from 1st to 2nd?
I think it may be the thing that the service bulletin was talking about.
Let me know if you find anything out.

My 2nd gear is tough to engage when cold and had a few mini crunches/grinds. I've only had 2 grinds in 2nd but that was my fault since I didn't have it fully in 2nd and tried to re-engage it. In normal circumstances I have a on and off notch but that is due to my slow shifting, If I do it faster there isn't a notch. I am just keeping an eye out on it and documenting anything that really feels bad.

I have a 2001 with 7000 miles and have not had any grind but then again I have not broke the back tires or speed shifted either. I am middle age and had mine special ordered, I am just giving you the different circumstances so you can make the best judgement. I get a regular healthy dose of v-tec though!

This is not the infamous "1-2 grind" for the MY2000 cars. What you are experiencing is just the transmission. It is "tight", especially when cold. Take your time, learn how to drive the car, and eventually, the transmission will smooth out.
The MY2000 "1-2 grind" was alleged to occur at full-throttle, high-rpm gear shifts where something would cause the transmission to grind. I never had it or heard it myself.
Anyways, there's a big difference from the usual Honda FWD transmission and the RWD S2000 transmission. The S2000 is much more direct and requires a little more patience in the beginning. After a couple thousand miles, both you and the car will be sufficiently run in to perform smooth shifts.
