Ehh, anyone can claim an accident is minor. I know a guy from my auto classes at school who is really good with body work. He bought a salvage title 04 Mustang for $500. It had been in a nasty T-bone accident and the frame was bent and the whole driver side needed replacing. He litterally used some bondo, bought a salvage door from a scrape yard and had the car Macco painted to look decent...managed to convince a buyer it had been in a minor 5 mph parking incident that caused an airbag deployment, hence the salvage title. He sold it for $6,000...the guy called him a week later saying his mechanic was ready to condem the vehicle. My classmate told him tough luck the car was sold as is (he made him actually sign a paper stating that) and sure enough he's off the hook. He's a shady dude I don't like him. Moral of my story is any accident is a bad accident in this day and age due to people's greed and dishonesty. Good luck with the purchase I'm not saying you should, just saying be careful I'd hate to see you're buddy get a dream car only to be disappointed.
Obviously the car was easily recognized as being in a serious accident since the mechanic found it and could tell it was serious.

So with that said, accidents happen all the time and can be fixed to oem spec (sometimes better).

If the body parts line up, and the tires are wearing evenly (a sign of frame damage), and the engine and other parts of the car are in good health (compression check). No rust, I would consider it.

It's a car, not a replacement heart

Sounds about right. I myself had a fender bender, all i had to replace was my fender and headlight, no major issues at all.

I've been looking at a 1 owner 2003 for 11.5k, but it has 90,000 miles which seems a bit high to me for the price. Thoughts? This is in California by the way, but I'm willing to travel a bit for the right car.

i've seen a couple 03's w/ 70-100k miles go for like 10 grand. 11.5 isn't too bad if you can knock down a grand off that i would say go for it.

An accident is not an accident. There's a lot of variety there. Just take somone that know's what to look for and you'll be fine. You cant compare acar with a replaced fender to a car that has had sections of frame replaced. Even still, if done properly the car can potentially be a good buy.
100% a dented and replaced fender I dont even consider to be an accident. Its no worse than a front end re-spray to get rid of rock chips. I think some people really need to evaluate how they classify accidents. what about the people that change the nose to something else tell me what the difference is in changing a nose vs a fender?
