There were a few more technical problems with the '00, due to that being the first model year of the car.
Actually if you read the new consumer's reports car edition--in the used car section, they list all the ratings for each model year and the 00 had better reliability than the 01. I'm looking at the reliability history right here--both the 00 and 01 had average transmission problems. Other than that the 01 had problems with 'body integrity' 'power equipment' and 'body hardware.' The problem with these ratings is that it doesnt go into detail exactly what sort of problems arose. But these ratings are pretty accurate cause they sample owners of each model--if you're interested you can pick a copy up anywhere this month and read more about it. But there were no problems 02 and on. All models are great cars, because consumers recommended the car every year since its been out.

Hmm, interesting. I wonder what the heck "body integrity" and "body hardware" mean.

In late '02 updated oil jet bolts were installed under the pistons. This is an upgrade I consider to be worth noting.
Search for "oil jet bolts" to find out what VIN number the upgrade started at. '02 model also had minor sway bar changes to help reduce snap oversteer. The other changed are already noted in this thread.

2nd gear synchro(or the gear itself) was reworked in 2002, reducing the chance of the infamous 2nd gear grind. the most important change (as hotrods2000 as already mentinoed) are the new oil jet bolts that started to show up on mid-2002+ s2000's. the new oil bolts will make allow the engine to be lubircated properly at high rpm operation.
