Default 2000 S2000 Stereo

I just bought a 2000 S2000 with 4700 miles on it today and am looking to upgrade the stereo system. Primarily I want a system that can play MP3 CDs and connect to IPod but I also want better speakers. So a few questions:

1) What head unit have people had success with that still allows the front panel to close?
2) Which adaptor have people used so that the factor volume/station controls on the dash still work?
3) I don't have to have a separate amp but am interested in a separate amp if there is an easy place to put it that doesn't require a massive amount of speaker re-wiring. Has anyone had any experience with that?

So there are a few options from what I can gather:

1) Easy. Head unit with adaptor from Crutchfield, Polk speakers from Ebay low-baller. No separate amp, no subwoofer. I can even install this myself. Probably <$300-$350.
2) Moderate. Head unit with adaptor, speakers, separate amp. I can probably install this myself with some frustration and with some ghetto results. I will probably have to take to shop. Probably $700 with labor.
3) Hard. Head unit with adaptor, speakers, separate amp, subwoofer, amp for subwoofer. Probably $1100 with labor.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm betting typo. OP, check the electronics forum for answers to your questions.

edit: I lose the bet. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...pic=641591&hl=
