20 years old, not rich; wait til 25 to buy s2k?
i was really planning to buy a s2k by ths summer, but my father wants a new truck, so he wants me to put off buying the s2000 (he'll let me his old truck). he says i can practice the stick shift w/ the beat up truck, and if i wait til 25, i can save tons of money in insurance.
but, i heard from many places that the s2000 will be discontinued soon... if i choose to wait til 25 (2009), i want a new car, b/c of bad experience from used cars i've driven, and ones my friends bought. does anyone know how certain the discontinuation would be? is there gonna be a new "S" that would be similarly priced, cuz i really like the car as it is right now. i heard of a v6 "S" replacing, but it sounds doubtful

It won't be discontinued anytime soon. And even if it does you can get one used in good condition as most owners treat the car like a family member.
Insurance is much cheaper at 25. Especially if you're married and even own a house. Start setting yourself up for it - it's an expensive toy (:

honestly, youre saying 25 but you dont even need to wait that long... When I was 20 my insurance was 265 a month on my 1999 4 Runner and then 290 a month on my 2001 BMW Z3 and now at 22 years old my insurance just went down a bit because Ive had insurance with the same company since I was 16. They give big breaks for that. Then if you keep your record mostly clean (i got 2 minor speeding tickets in other states) that is another break. Another HUGE break for you would be to save up and buy some kind of beater for 800 bucks or something and then get your S2000 so you get multi-car discount and tell the insurance company you only drive the S one day a week for fun so hardly any mileage. That will make a BIG difference.
I did this with USAA and I have an 85 4runner and got quoted for adding a '04 Cobra and my insurance was gonna be $180 a month.
Hope that helps some. Oh yeah and the beater can help you when winter comes around too!!

Got my S when I was 21 (I'm 22 now). I was hestitant b/c or costs, but my girl at the time (we broke up right after I got it, maybe I love the car too much ) said "if there's ANY way you can get it, you should, b/c you know you'll love it that much." She was soooo right too. How many times in your life can you enjoy the car of your dreams while you're still young enough to (not that you can't as you get older ) But your friends will love it, you'll love the H*ll out of it, the ladies love it...on and on. So "if you can make it work, get it." You will NOT regret it.
Now...make sure you drive safe, it took spinning out in the rain on the hwy to make me realize this car requires your constant attention and thinking (fortunately the hwy was empty).

Have you actually priced what insurance would cost you, other than a lot? I've seen a few posts here where people took the plunge and then found out how much insurance was going to cost them. Not the best way to find out.

22, i pay $150/month, which comes to $1800 year (1 minor speeding ticket, 9 over).
Make sure you price for where you are located, it varies ALOT, I used to live in Colorado, and my instrance was really high there. Moving to TX next, insurance there (already quoted) will run me $1200/yr.
