Default 166,602 miles on the factory 01 top

It's been in sad shape for the last year but tonight the plastic window gave it up when I put the top down. It didn't quite want to fold right and creased when it was going down. Before I noticed I heard a pop and stopped.

I've got a new top with glass window waiting on me when I go home for leave on the 19th. Man, I cant wait to get that thing on. Anybody else got a factory top with more miles on it?

I just hit 70k and mine still looks like new. I use Meguiars Plast-X. Seems to keep it clean, inside and out.

Just out of curiousity, is there anything you can apply to the plastic window to keep it soft so it doesnt get hard/brittle over time? I do keep the car under a cover if not in a garage, to keep it out of the sun.

that top and window doesn't owe you a dime, nice work keeping it alive so long.

I don't know how to keep it from going brittle other than reducing UV rays on it, but avoiding movement of the roof in cold temps is one way to reduce the chance of it cracking. I bet the guys over in the wash and wax forum would have some recommendations on products to use to preserve the window as much as possible.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago, and right now, I am just keeping the hole closed with some duct tape until I buy my replacement and Clovis installs it for me. Mine's a 2001 as well, but I only have 46,000 miles on it. So the fact that yours lasted four times that long, I think you got more than your money's worth. Good opportunity now to upgrade to glass as well

That's amazing!!! I would have never imagined the plastic window would have lasted anyone that long. Congrats and enjoy the freedom of not having to apply plastic-x every other day. Well maybe you didn't have to do that but before mine cracked I was applying it every other day.

shouldn't the durability and lasting affect of a soft top be measured in years not miles? Not bashing on you here, its the UV exposure that will determine how long it lasts. But hey props for it lasting.

UV exposure... plus the amount of times it was put up or down, the amount of times it was put up or down in cold weather, whether or not the owner made sure it folded correctly each time it was put down, how it was taken care of with products, etc.

I had mine for 69K miles, before I decided to upgrade to a glass top a couple of months ago. It was still working well, but the glass top looks so much better and is easier to maintain.
