1/4 mile with 4.77
#51
I just got back from a vacation which was mostly highway driving. Just for the hell of it I stayed in 5th the whole weekend just to see if I could tolerate 4.77's on the highway. To my surprise it wasn't that bad.
My car is bone stock. So I think it might be worse if I had exhaust and an intake. But I am now leaning more towards 4.77's I didn't notice any difference in fuel usage either. i ran it all the way up in rpm's to see what my top speed would be too. i got 146mph with it bouncing of the rev limiter, then the fuel cut off. i can live with that

I certainly would suggest getting these if you don't have them already and if you are going with 4.77's or FI.

Still haven't gone done the recall on my German '00 car. I spend too much time on the Ring to have time to hit $tealerships!
I don't normally cruise at more than 180kmh in this car, as it's already screaming at 6000 at that point, and have only done one cross-country trip at 7000+rpm the whole way (which was fun), but fuel economy turned to crap.

You buy 4 of them and put them in. Try one of our sponsors: Ganley Honda or H and A.
Here's how it's done:

my question has to do with acceleration in 5th dn 6th gears. When you put the car into 5th at 100mph, how did the car accelerate until redline 5th and then when you put it into 6th? i think that on a stock car, redline 4th is pretty much the same as redline 5th with the 4.77, maybe a few mph difference. so technically 5th gear should feel as strong from 100 to 120 mph as 4th? maybe??
I cannot seem to get the idea out of my head that although you are still at a higher rpm, which means more power, you will still be in 5th and 6th gears. And from my experience the 5th and 6th gears really start to lose momentum on a stock car. When I used to put the car in 6th from redline 5th, the car felt like it it had no Balls at all. It just didn't want to move
My only other mod is an intake.
Jimbo69ny, how did the car accelerate in 5th and 6th compared to stock. I mean really winding the car, at high rpm in both these gears.

I think there's a thread somewhere that shows the mechanical dynamics and % gains using the 444's.. If I remember correctly, the greatest percentage gains are in 5th and 6th gears......maybe someone remembers it, I don't know if there is a chart on there for 477's or not.
